An American Haunting

John Bell was molesting his eldest daughter Betsy Bell which 'upset' the spirit haunting them. Lucy Bell knew about it but stayed silent. The spirit convinces Betsy to poison her father to cease the hauntings, she complies as Lucy looks on. Cut back to the present and the latest occupant realises her daughter's being molested by her own father too.

Factual error: As the film itself notes, the major action starts in spring 1818 and continues for several weeks if not months. However, many of the trees remain leafless and the weather is nothing like the norm in spring and summertime Tennessee.
