Trivia: The film's scratch-and-sniff "Odorama" gimmick (where audiences could "smell the movie") was inspired by the works of director William Castle, who often used audience-participation gimmicks in the films he distributed. Castle was a personal hero of director John Waters.

Continuity mistake: About 20 minutes into the movie, the family is sitting around the dining room table eating breakfast. Dad asks how school is going, and the daughter replies, "I learned all about my cervix in sex ed today", then walks off. They are eating breakfast, and the kids have not yet gone to school.
Cuddles Kovinsky: At first I thought he was walking his dog. Then I realised, it was his date.
