Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When Elizabeth is dining with Barbossa aboard the Black Pearl, cutting between the front shots and side shots she holds the turkey leg differently in her left hand. Also held differently in her right hand is the bread when Barbossa offers her the apple and she looks at the monkey between the two shots. (00:55:10)

Continuity mistake: When Jack slides down the rope at the start, the arm that swung him round is facing Jacks left as he grabs the rope. Camera cuts and it is now instantly rotated 90 degrees. (00:19:00)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: After the cutting of Elizabeth's hand, the knife's blade is shown six times. 1st- a wide shot from behind, the blade has no blood on it. 2nd- a close-up, as Elizabeth lets go of the medallion. 3rd- a front shot, as Barbossa lets go of her hand. 4th- when Barbossa puts the gun back into his belt. 5th- when he holds the blade up to his face, we see both sides. 6th- when he grabs the medallion out of the chest. In each of these shots the blood on the blade differs in amount and/or position on either side. This has nothing to do with the 'dripping' of the blood down the blade. (01:12:15)

Continuity mistake: When Jack is in the Fort Prison, he's trying to get the dog to bring him the keys. When he says, "Good boy. Come get the bone," the handle sticking out of the pail on the floor is leaning away from the cell. When the dog comes closer, and Jack says, "That's it, doggy," the handle in the pail is facing towards the cell door. (00:36:10)

Continuity mistake: When Jack and Will are under the bridge, and Jack says, "We're going to commandeer that ship. Nautical term," his right cheek is clean. When he turns to ask Will "One question about your business..." there is a broad black smudge running from his right cheek to the right side of his nose. As he turns around after Will's answer and says, "No worries..." his right cheek is again clean, without ever having touched his face. (00:44:35)

Continuity mistake: Aboard the Black Pearl while watching Interceptor explode, Elizabeth runs over to Barbossa and yells, "You've got to stop it." While Barbossa holds Elizabeth, in the first shot behind her, the left shoulder of her burgundy dress is on her shoulder. In the next front close-up shot, her dress is off her left shoulder, then in the next shot behind her, her dress is on her shoulder again. (01:30:55)

Continuity mistake: As Jack and Will are duelling while standing on the cart, and then up on the beams, in wide shots, Will's hair is pulled back perfectly in the ponytail, but in the close-up shots he has loose hair on the sides that is not held in the ponytail. This type of thing occurs numerous times in the film. (00:25:20)

Revealing mistake: During the first blood ritual and other moments in the film, you can tell that Geoffrey Rush's (Barbossa) eyes are yellowish only because he's wearing colored contact lenses. (01:12:45)

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl mistake picture

Continuity mistake: Elizabeth holds the medallion chain over the edge of the railing. In the first shot she says, "I'll drop it," the chain dangles down with the excess chain over her fingers. In the front close-up of her arm, only the bottom chain is dangling. In the back close-up of her hand, with Barbossa in the background, the medallion and chain dangle shorter now, with the excess chain over her fingers. This takes place before she says, "There's no point in me keeping it." (00:38:50)

Continuity mistake: When Elizabeth is taken aboard the Black Pearl, Bo'sun slaps her face. Bo'sun's hand never makes any contact with Elizabeth's face, but the sound effect makes it very convincing. Also, in the first side shot of the slap, when Bo'sun starts to say, "You'll speak..." it's the back of her left hand that touches her cheek, and we can see the white corner of her night gown under the robe sleeve. In the next front shot, it's the palm of her hand that is touching her cheek now and the white night gown doesn't show at the sleeve. (00:38:10)

Continuity mistake: Before Elizabeth's blood ritual, Jack is rowing the boat into the cave and Will is holding the pole with the attached lantern. As Jack says, "Any man who falls behind, is left behind," Will is holding the pole with his left hand high up on the pole and his right down below. In the next shot, Will says, "No heroes amongst thieves," and Will's right hand is now high up on the pole. (01:09:10)

Continuity mistake: When Jack holds the chain to Elizabeth's neck, and subsequently swings about, there are about ten links between the wrist shackles. When he tosses the links over the rope, before he slides down, there are at least fifteen attached links. Then at the blacksmith shop, when Jack sits at the anvil, there are eight links, and after he breaks it there are three links dangling from the right shackle and seven dangling from the left, totaling ten. Question: After Elizabeth is brought to the Pearl, she threatens to drop the medallion overboard. Barbossa feigns disinterest but when Elizabeth pretends to drop it, the pirates gasp in panic. Why? So she drops it, big deal. They can't drown, the gold "calls to them" so what does it matter if she were to drop it?

Jacordx

Chosen answer: Because they'd have to find it. The gold may "call to them", but it obviously doesn't function as a millimetre perfect homing beacon or they'd never have missed the medallion years earlier when they attacked the ship carrying the young Will. Elizabeth drops it into the sea and they're going to have to spend what could be months trying to locate it - currents could take it well away from the dropping point. They've found the final missing piece; they're potentially just hours away from finally being cured. The last thing they want is to see it thrown into the sea.

Tailkinker

Well, if the crew was anxious to get the medallion then why did they act like they weren't interested in it before Elizabeth pretended to drop it?

Reverse psychology.

Ssiscool

What do you mean by reverse psychology?

By showing they are not interested in the medallion they are hoping Elizabeth will just drop it on the floor or chuck it to them as it's of no real value. However when she releases a bit of chain and the medallion drops, and the pirates lurch forward revealing that they really want the medallion and as such Elizabeth now has the upper hand in negotiations.

Ssiscool

I'm guessing Elizabeth wasn't fooled when the pirates showed disinterest in the medallion.

That's not called reverse psychology, which is used to encourage someone to change his or her mind. Doesn't work with a threat. They are feigning indifference to hide the importance of the object.
