Continuity mistake: After the Scare Floor shuts down at 6:00 and Sulley goes back to do Mike's paperwork, the clock reads 5:48. After he returns again to put Boo back, it clearly shows 5:48. Finally, after Randall leaves and Sulley leaves the Scare Floor for the restaurant, the clock reads 6:48. (00:22:06)
Deliberate mistake: When Boo laughs repeatedly while playing hide-n-seek with Sully in the men's room, nothing happens to the electricity - no surges as with all other times she laughs. [In the audio commentary by the directors, they explained that it would've been distracting if an energy surge occurred every time Boo laughed, so they simply didn't address the issue. A reasonable course of action, but still a mistake.] (00:37:30)
Other mistake: When Sulley and Mike take Boo into the Factory, they see all of the CDA agents. There are 3 talking to Mr. Waternoose(as we see seconds later). One of them is number 00002. When they are done, they escort Mr. Waternoose to somewhere else. However at that very second another agent comes in with a metal detector thing. His number is also 00002. (00:35:20 - 00:36:10)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning when you see the monster in the testing room from under the bed with the glowing eyes, you also see the soccer ball on the left side of the screen. This shot takes place on the side of the bed. After the monster gets scared, he backs up kicks the soccer ball, but it is now at the foot of the bed in the middle of the room. (00:02:35)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the film, we see Sully asleep in his bed and the alarm clock/radio on a bedside cabinet to the right. Later, when Boo climbs into Sully's bed, the clock/radio isn't there anymore. (00:04:50 - 00:32:30)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning when the monsters are at the testing room, you can see the boy in the bed seeing something opening the cabinet. He closes his eyes and opens them up again to see a sweater sticking out. But when another monster sees what he does wrong on the tape, the sweater isn't sticking out anymore. (00:03:40)
Continuity mistake: When Mike takes the toilet paper off his feet, it's lying on the floor in the hallway. But when his girlfriend comes and yells to him, it's gone.
Continuity mistake: In Sully's bed, Boo is afraid of the closet, and there are many drawings in the bed, but when she shows the drawing of Randall, the others are gone. They come back when she goes to sleep.
Continuity mistake: During the ending credits, they show Mike and Sulley redoing their "musical" number in front of all the monsters on the scream floor. During this Sulley blocks Boo out of the way by pushing her behind him. But when Sulley starts to dance, Boo has disappeared. (01:28:50)
Continuity mistake: At the start of the workday, Randall opens the first door with the knob on the left and hinges on the right. When he comes back out, the knob is on the right and the hinges are on the left. (00:14:45)
Factual error: In the scene where Waternoose and Sully are talking, Waternoose gets himself some "coffee", which is sludgy and thick and takes quite a while to pour from the machine. Seconds later, he takes a very quick sip. Since the liquid was so thick and there was little in the cup, it would be impossible for it to pour that fast.
Continuity mistake: When Mike and Sully are in the ice cave, and Mike is starting to throw the a Snowball before Sully says, "None of it matters anymore" the snowball turns from yellow to white for a few seconds, and then back to yellow.
Continuity mistake: During the scene on the scare floor, there is a world map above the entrance. To the right of the map are two signs that read STAND BY and SCARE. In some shots, the signs change from written words, to symbols of a monster standing still (STAND BY) and roaring (SCARE).
Continuity mistake: When Randall catches Mike and tells him that he has half an hour to put Boo in her door he also says the door will be in his station. Later we see that the door is on station 5. But on the first day Mike and Sully are working on station 5 and Randall is on station 6.
Factual error: The map of the world on the scare floor shows Australia without Tasmania. This is best seen late in the movie after Boo has returned home, Sully is now management and when Mike asks him to follow him you can clearly see the world map behind Sully showing Australia and no Tasmania. (01:23:30)
Continuity mistake: When Mike, Sulley and Boo are walking to the Scare Floor after leaving the locker room, Mike's feet and legs are soaking wet. His feet are suddenly dry by the time they reach the Scare Floor. (00:38:45)Casual Person
Continuity mistake: Waternoose grabs a scream can and starts releasing all the energy and the red line starts to go down. There are white lines over sections of the can. When he begins to release the energy, right at the very end of the first shot, the red line that goes down has not yet reached the first white line. In the very next shot, the red line has suddenly passed the white line.Casual Person
Continuity mistake: When Sully and Mike are talking in front of the Abominable Snowman, and Mike starts throwing the snow cones at Sully, we see the snowman covering one of the snowcone holes with his thumb, while from a different angle it seems as though his thumb is between the two holes and the hole that he had just covered has an empty snowcone wrapper in it. (01:00:35)
Continuity mistake: The scare chart shows a picture of the scarer and the number totals. In the shot that shows Mike repeatedly taking out tanks whilst Sulley is scaring the child, the names of the people have suddenly appeared next to the picture of the scarer that weren't even there in previous or following shots.Casual Person
Continuity mistake: When a green monster named Frank was walking out of Monsters, Inc. on the second day, take a look at what's behind the door - It only shows passages to scare floors, but when Mike and Sulley (holding Boo in costume) walk in, the CDA is all over the place. (00:35:05)
Continuity mistake: Near the end of the movie when Waternoose "calls" for Boo's door along with the CDA, it arrives into the factory on the "outgoing" door track.
Continuity mistake: When George comes out of the door with the kid's sock stuck to him the sock's toe points inward toward the middle of his back. When the CDA rushes in to remove it the sock toe faces outward. (00:17:40 - 00:18:25)
Factual error: After Mike rebuilds Boo's door, it shows a few crack lines but is otherwise intact. But the shredder created a lot of sawdust so it would be impossible to rebuild the door using only the wood pieces. (01:20:00 - 01:24:10)
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Mike and Sully are in the locker room after a day of scaring, discussing plans for the evening, George Sanderson's assistant is seen in the lower left side of the screen, having difficulties removing his helmet. In the scene immediately after, Mike and Sully are walking down a large hallway that leads to the Monsters Inc. main lobby. George's assistant is seen in the background in the hallway, wearing his helmet. Even in the shot where Roz is inquiring about Mike's paperwork in the lobby, the assistant is still seen crossing the lobby in the background, wearing his helmet.
Plot hole: When Sully and Mike are talking in the toilets, during Boo and Sully's Hide and Seek game, Boo comes running in screaming and upset because she's just seen Randall, and he's not too far behind since all three can hear him talking offscreen to the CDA before entering the toilets, but how did Boo get to Sully faster than Randall without him seeing her, and how did Randall not hear her screams since they're all in the changing rooms which have an echo?
Continuity mistake: When we first see Waternoose, he says a single touch of a child could kill them. A yellow guy throws his pencil and pad forwards out of his hands. When Waternoose walks over to the three people, the pencil and pad has moved to the right of the yellow guy without ever being touched.Casual Person
