Stupidity: The mastermind of the crime has to distract everyone during the first murder while their accomplices act inside the closet. The last thing they should do then is to literally point at the room where the foul play is happening, but they do, and 'luckily' nobody follows where they are pointing. It's just by pure luck, though, and nobody in their 'right mind' (so to speak) would look and point at the spot they are trying to take attention away from.
