I saw this film just a few hours ago, and I still almost don't even know exactly what to say. Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale," based on the play by Samuel D. Hunter, was an utterly unique experience for me. It was both delightful and grotesque. Inspiring and devastating. It was a thing of terrible, terrible beauty. And I was enthralled from start to finish.

I will update this review when I have had a chance to see it again. But it is not only a perfect five out of five for me... it may very well be my favorite film of 2022. And I say that as a man who has struggled with my weight my whole life and was apprehensive about this film at times.

Revealing mistake: There are noticeable differences in the appearance/condition of the lattice panels on the deck (overlapping; whether there are missing/broken slats and, if so, their locations), but pinpointing most of the differences would require pausing. When Thomas was seated in front of the panel adjacent to the door, sometimes there were broken/missing slats but other times they were intact. Most revealing was the absence of the lattice panel opposite the front door when Liz was standing near Thomas. (00:42:17 - 00:49:42)

Trivia: The prosthetic suit Brendan Fraser had to wear for the film weighed nearly 300 pounds, caused his muscles great strain and would leave him with vertigo when it'd be removed at the end of the day. He said that wearing it gave him much more respect and empathy for people who struggle with obesity, as he realised how strong they have to be both physically and mentally.
