Factual error: The owl that JP was looking at made a "who who" sound. The owl may appear to be a Snowy Owl (one many people are familiar with), but it is a Barn Owl. Barn owls are not "true" owls and it is the true owls who "give a hoot." Barn owls don't hoot; they make a screeching or squealing sound which can be piercing (and eerie to some people). (00:32:50)
American Carnage (2022)
Plot summary
Directed by: Diego Hallivis
Starring: Jenna Ortega, Allen Maldonado, Jorge Lendeborg Jr.
JP (works at "Lady Liberty" fast-food drive-through window) and his sister Lily (just accepted to Ivy League Columbia University) are high school students, and the children of illegal immigrants. It is announced on the news that there has been an executive order for the task force to round up/arrest all illegal immigrants in the state, as well as their children, even if born in the U.S. Soon afterward, JP, Lily, and several of their friends are taken into custody, separated, and placed in large "cages" with mattresses on the floor.
JP sees Lily being bused away and does not know where she is going or if he'll ever see her again. At the detention center, JP is told about a program called "The Elderly American Tolerance and Understanding Project," which is a type of community service program. If JP volunteers and completes the program, his (questionable) charges will be dropped. JP volunteers and finds most of their friends at the Elder Care facility. JP will later discover that Lily is also there, but the ordeal may have changed her forever.
It doesn't take long for teenage "volunteers" to become suspicious about what is transpiring at the facility, how they and the elderly patients are being treated, and what can be done if anything. Some of the teens start turning into elderly people, and the others presume they will become the next victims, unless they can stop the director and his staff. The movie is classified as "comedy" and "horror," but also touches on and uses current events to set the stage. Without being a "spoiler" here, the ending theme relates to a well-known movie from decades ago.
