Khan and Kirk duke it out on their respective ships in the Mutara nebula. Khan disables the Enterprise with a lucky shot. Kirk disables the Reliant with an experienced shot. Khan activates the Genesis device only giving the crew of the Enterprise 5 minutes to get out of the nebula. Spock sacrifices his life to jump start the Enterprise and escape the nebula with no time to spare.
Kirk sends Spock's body down to the Genesis planet and McCoy walks off with Spock's katra.

The way he is fidgeting, he is obviously an extra that didn't know what to do after "Action" was yelled. Question: Presumably, the Genesis Planet was formed out of the dust and gas of the Mutara Nebula. But where did its sun come from?

Chosen answer: According to the novelisation of the film the Genesis project was initially designed to be capable of creating an entire solar system. While the focus of the project eventually narrowed down to altering an individual planet, the sub-routines necessary to create a star were still in place and were activated when the device detonated within the nebula.
