Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara is explaining to Kouzuki about his wedding night, it cuts to Hideko and Fujiwara in bed on that night. Hideko unfolds a tissue she had in the bed and removes a knife from it. The tissue is positioned right next to the bed, but when Hideko starts to make moaning noises, the tissue is suddenly a few inches further away from the bed. (02:11:40 - 02:12:25)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee and Hideko are standing at the counter at the station to get tickets, in a close-up shot of their passports, the man behind the counter is holding the passports in his left hand and their tickets in the right hand. The man goes to look over some papers with his left hand and he is suddenly holding both the passports and tickets with his right hand. (02:08:58)
Continuity mistake: When Hideko and Fujiwara are in the hotel room, as they are kissing, Hideko puts her hand around the back of Fujiwara's neck, but in the next shot, the hand is no longer there. (02:01:10)
Continuity mistake: When Hideko is sitting on the wooden mannequin, whilst Kouzuki wraps the noose around its neck, Hideko places her hands around the mannequin's neck upwards to match the position of the noose. The camera then cuts to a wider shot where Hideko's hands are now downwards so that her hands are touching the bottom of the neck. (01:19:08)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is speaking with the two doctors from the mental hospital, when she says she is the Lady's handmaiden, the doctor sitting on the right has his hands on his lap. It then cuts to a shot of the two doctors where the doctor on the right is suddenly writing in his notepad. This mistake can only be seen in the Theatrical Cut, as the shot has been extended in the Extended Cut to show the man raising his notepad. (01:00:15)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee goes to Fujiwara's room after he arrives at the mansion, he is shown in the background of shot tying his bow tie. Whilst Sook-Hee begins to slide the door shut, Fujiwara lowers his right arm. We then cut to Fujiwara inside the room after the door closes, where he has both hands on the bow tie. (00:26:25)
Continuity mistake: After arriving at the mansion, when Fujiwara walks over to Sook-Hee after talking with Hideko, there is nothing shown in his hands. He then checks out her bone structure with a paper fan in his left hand that he did not have in the previous shot. (00:25:25)
Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara greets Hideko after arriving at the mansion, Sook-Hee is shown in the background when Fujiwara approaches Hideko, walking over to the doors and closing them. It then cuts to Hideko and in the background of the shot, we can see a mirror with Sook-Hee's reflection shown, where she is standing back to her original position, completely still and doing nothing. Continuity mistake: When Hideko is showing Sook-Hee the photo of her mother, Hideko is holding the closeable photo frame with two fingers. One finger is near to the edge of the left hand side photo. The other finger is beside it on the centre of the frame. A close-up shot of the photo is shown, where the finger Hideko had on the edge of the left hand side of the frame is now in the middle and the finger beside it is now on the frame on the right hand side. Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara places the wooden Buddha on the table, his hat is on one of the curved hangers on the coat stand. It cuts to a close up of Fujiwara, before cutting back to the original camera angle, where his hat has now moved onto an upright hanger on the stand. (00:10:10)
Continuity mistake: When Fujiwara finds the hidden drawer in the staircase, he pulls out the drawer and has his left hand at his side. In the next shot, his left hand is suddenly touching the staircase bannister. (00:09:55)
Continuity mistake: When Kouzuki finishes cutting off Fujiwara's underwear with a pair of scissors, he is shown holding the scissors in his left hand by the blades whilst pulling the underwear off with an object in his right hand. A close-up shot of the scissors is then shown where he is now holding the scissors by the handle. (02:15:08)
Continuity mistake: On the ferry to Shimonoseki, as Hideko becomes upset by a group of cheering soldiers, Fujiwara puts his hand around her left shoulder to console her. In the shot from behind, the part of Hideko's scarf covering the back of her neck is shown blowing in the wind in the opposite direction, as Fujiwara puts his hand on her. When the shot cuts, the scarf is suddenly covering the back of her left shoulder. (00:54:45)
Continuity mistake: When Kouzuki begins to notice the blue smoke after cutting off Fujiwara's underwear, he is first shown facing Fujiwara and begins to turn around whilst he says "It's odd. Your smoke." After finishing the line, just before the shot cuts, he is turned completely away from Fujiwara. We are then shown a wide shot of the room where Kouzuki has suddenly turned around more towards Fujiwara's position. (02:15:24)
Continuity mistake: When Hideko stands after Sook-Hee sees her kissing Fujiwara, the wind begins to lightly blow her hair. The camera cuts to an angle further away where her hair is being blown at much more and much further apart. (00:40:30)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee sees Hideko and Fujiwara kissing after returning with the paints, Hideko begins to stand, placing her right hand on Fujiwara's shoulder to help her stand. She has her elbow upwards when she begins to stand, but when the camera cuts to a closer shot, her elbow is much lower. (00:40:27)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee first goes to the library, she slides the door open. Once she finishes sliding the door open, she still has her left hand on the door frame. It cuts to an angle from behind where her hand is now off the door frame and being pulled away. (00:21:20)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is walking up the stairs whilst Sasaki is escorting her through the mansion, she looks at a painting of Hideko as a child. It cuts back to Sook-Hee beginning to turn around a corner in the stairs, but in the next shot, she is further up the staircase. (00:05:38)
Continuity mistake: When Sasaki is showing Sook-Hee through the mansion, Sook-Hee begins walking up a few steps. The camera changes to a different angle where Sook-Hee has suddenly rotated 90° to her right to face the stairs in front of her. (00:05:30)
Continuity mistake: When Sook-Hee is in the car on the way to Kouzuki's mansion, she takes out the hairpin in her hair. Four of her fingers are placed against the back of it and her fingers are shown in a straight angle. A close-up shot of the hairpin is shown and Sook-Hee's fingers are now in a curled angle.
