The Andy Griffith Show mistake picture

Wyatt Earp Rides Again - S6-E20

Continuity mistake: After Opie tells Andy that he knows he'll win at high noon, it cuts to Warren in front of Floyd's shop (with its furniture conspicuously missing), but later when Andy walks over to Floyd's shop its facade has changed. Note differences such as window structure, and the name "Floyd's Barber Shop" painted on the window which wasn't in the earlier shot. (00:18:05 - 00:24:15)

Girl Shy - S6-E15

Visible crew/equipment: After Andy agrees with Helen to suggest a blind-date for Warren, when it cuts to Warren walking into the courthouse, we can see set lighting and equipment behind the door instead of the usual painted backdrop. (00:01:55)

A Man's Best Friend - S6-E12

Other mistake: During the scenes at Goober's filling station we can see a few brand names covered. For example, the "Chew Mail Pouch Tobacco" wall thermometer sign has its brand name "Mail Pouch" covered with black tape, and all the yellow "Pennzoil" cans have half the letters of their brand name painted yellow, so all the cans read "en zo."

Andy and the Gentleman Crook - S1-E21

Visible crew/equipment: When Aunt Bee is in the kitchen preparing to take a tray of food to the prisoner she momentarily walks out of the kitchen through the swinging door. As she pushes the door open, a crew member's hand and arm can be seen behind the door.

Opie Steps Up in Class - S8-E5

Continuity mistake: When Aunt Bee picks up Opie at Billy's house, she parks the car in front and walks up to the front door. In the wideshot there's a space of approximately 3-4 feet between the blue window shutter and the door trim under the pediment, but in Aunt Bee's closeup there is no space whatsoever.

The Shoplifters - S4-E21

Continuity mistake: At the beginning of the show, Barney and Andy are sitting inside a 1964 Ford patrol car. When they are shown up close inside, you can tell it is not the likeness of the same car. The back glass windows look more like a 1960 model possibly. It is definitely not a 1964.

Cousin Virgil - S2-E30

Other mistake: Barney's cousin is coming to Mayberry but gets off the bus in a previous town and misses it. Barney and Andy go out to find him, leaving from Mayberry. They are driving down the road when they come upon his cousin. The cousin is walking in the same direction as Andy and Barney are going, which would have meant he was walking away from Mayberry when he should have been walking towards it.

The Ball Game - S7-E4

Other mistake: Helen is sitting on the first base side, there is a play at the plate and Opie is called out at the plate. Near the end of the show, Helen has a picture she took of the play and it show Opie to be safe. The picture angle is taken almost directly from home plate and at a low angle. The backstop is also blocked half the way up. She would have had to be on the field behind home plate for such a picture. It's also very close up but the camera she is using doesn't have any zoom feature.

A Warning from Warren - S6-E6

Visible crew/equipment: After Goober has deliberately removed the distributor cap from Andy's squad car, when Andy slams the hood shut we can see the reflection of the filming crew on Floyd's window. Then when Andy and Helen drive away in Goober's truck, the microphone pops up into view at the bottom of the screen. (00:17:20)

Factual error: The badges they wear don't match the badges on their patches. If there's a badge on the patch, it's supposed to match their actual badge.

The Barbershop Quartet - S7-E3

Other mistake: At the end of the show Andy talks about the upcoming bowling league. Howard shows Andy his injured left thumb. This should not affect his bowling since Howard is right handed.

Andy and Opie, Housekeepers - S1-E23

Continuity mistake: Andy is sitting on the couch, next to him on the end table is a glass and what appears to be a dark bottle like a beer bottle. They cut away, when they return to Andy on the couch the glass and the dark bottle have disappeared.

Opie's Group - S8-E9

Andy: Clara, sometimes a parent can't see what he should do, and sometimes it takes a person from the outside to show him. And I'd like to thank you.
Clara: Groovy.

Convicts-at-Large - S3-E11

Question: Beginning with the "Convicts at Large" episode in season 3, full width window boxes appear at the bottom of both front windows on the inside of the Sheriff's Office. Prior to this episode, they did not exist. Window boxes are often used to display decorative plants but I don't see any plants. And if they were supposed to partially block the background, the blinds were long enough to accomplish that. I find it hard to believe that the producers would spend additional money (for material and labor) for something that seems to serve no purpose. So why were they added?

Answer: Those "boxes" are valences that used to be very common, before air conditioning. They allow for windows to be open during rain storms. They permit air circulation, without letting the rain in.

Answer: As noted in the previous answers, in real life, things like this provided wind and/or rain deflection, and also maintained a bit of privacy when blinds were raised somewhat. The interior courthouse set was located in the studio, so the "outside" Main Street didn't exist. I believe these things were added to the courthouse windows for practicality, to avoid some crew movement being visible on the opposite side of those windows. These are not "window boxes" to hold anything, as they're actually bottomless; we can see the Venetian blind's long pull cords under them. They're made of plywood and simple to build, so the "material and labor" was inexpensive. Similar variations made of different materials are in other movies/shows. In 1957's "12 Angry Men," textured chicken wire glass panels are in the jury room windows, and in "Jesse Stone: Night Passage" another type is in Jesse's office windows.

Answer: I suspect these were common, as to block the wind from blowing the blinds and papers on the desk.
