Continuity mistake: When the sand worm spits out BB-8 and launches Rey's staff, both BB-8 and the staff go flying towards the downed AT-AT walker. They start to separate in the air, with BB-8 flying further and faster than Rey's staff. Yet in the next shot, suddenly they are together in the air again. (00:01:50)
Continuity mistake: Rey throws her staff at the sand worm's location to free BB-8. When she does, her robe has a large loop of cloth hanging down behind her leg. Then, in the next shot after she throws the staff, suddenly that extra cloth loop is missing. (00:01:47)
Continuity mistake: After the sand worm drags BB-8 down under the sand, Rey runs up to the hole left behind. A couple of shots later, when she's looking around, still standing in the same spot, the hole and sand mound that she was next to have vanished. (00:01:43)
Other mistake: After the sand worm grabs BB-8 and pulls him under, Rey runs up to the hole. Yet in this shot, it shows her running up beside and then past the hole. When in the next shot, she's shown stopping right at the hole to look down into it. (00:01:34)
Continuity mistake: When Rey jams her staff into the sand worm's mouth, she and BB-8 turn around and run back the direction they came from. With that first shot showing a second trail in the sand, BB-8 is leaving next to the trail he made already. Two trails. Then, when the sand worm slams down to spit Rey's staff back at her, that shot shows BB-8 and her still running the direction they came from, but now there's only one trail behind BB-8, the new one he's leaving now. The old one has vanished. (00:01:14)
Continuity mistake: Just before Rey jams her staff into the worm's mouth, she pulls back with her elbows out. In the next shot, suddenly her arms are in a completely different position with both elbows down. (00:01:07)
Other mistake: Just before Rey jams her staff into the worm's mouth, she moves her arms to line it up. In a single frame, her left hand goes from holding the top of the staff underhanded to overhanded with no adjusting it. (00:01:06)
Continuity mistake: When the worm rears up in front of Rey, there are horizontal lines on its underbelly. One of which is very near the jaw and intersecting with the "shoulder" of one of its little arms. In the shot where it's about to snap at Rey before she wedges her staff into its mouth, the topmost line has vanished. (00:01:06)
Other mistake: Never once does Rey leave any footprints in the sand, despite her being heavier than BB-8. And BB-8 leaves constant trails in the sand wherever he goes. BB-8 weighs approximately 40 pounds, with Ray, if going by Daisy Ridley's reported weight, is about 121 pounds. She would absolutely be leaving foot prints in the sand, especially when jumping around. (00:00:22 - 00:02:44)
Continuity mistake: BB-8 and Rey watch the sand worm go away after she feeds it and you can see BB-8 with the slime on him. It cuts to a different angle just before the droid asks her how she found him, and the slime spots on the side of his head change shape and size. Most notably the middle spot shrinks significantly and the bottom one over laps the edge of his head. Also between cuts Rey is suddenly much further back from BB-8. (00:02:25)
Continuity mistake: The piece of junk that Rey feeds to the Nightwatcher worm appears between her and BB-8 with the pointed end of it facing away from BB-8 towards Rey, with the round end pointed out. When she bends down to pick the junk up, in the close up the pointed end is now facing outwards from between her and the droid with the round end towards BB-8. (00:02:10)
Continuity mistake: Rey grabs BB-8 and her staff, and then jumps up onto a fallen AT-AT Walker. She turns to look at the Nightwatcher worm and is standing right next to a very slime covered BB-8 on top of the AT-AT with her hand on his head. It cuts to a shot of the Nightwatcher from over Rey's shoulder and then back to a frontal view of her again from a higher angle. Rey didn't move once during those shots. But now she's suddenly standing further away from BB-8 to show the junk part between them, BB-8 now has much less slime on him, and the groove in the metal of the walker going down vertically behind BB-8 has vanished. (00:02:05)
Continuity mistake: As Rey is retrieving her staff with a slimed BB-8 in her grasp, she passes by and leaps onto the leg of an old fallen AT-AT Walker which is next to her. There is a fin, or toe, sticking up into the air from its foot with a groove down the middle in the close shot as she gets her staff. In one of the following shots as she's jumping up onto the leg, that middle groove on the toe disappears. Also in these shots, suddenly much more sand is built up against the foot of the Walker than before. (00:02:00)
Continuity mistake: The nightwatcher worm comes up out of the sand right next to BB-8's trail through the sand. After Rey identifies it and the creature is about to duck down under the sand, the trail BB-8 left behind has vanished. (00:00:45)
Continuity mistake: For most of the episode, Rey's outfit is shown having long pieces of fabric or cloth hanging off the back of her clothes like robe flaps and one in a sort of loop. Usually, when she's running or moving, these are flapping or blowing around behind her as you'd expect. Yet strangely, when she's running up to the spot where the sandworm just grabbed BB-8 and went under, the flaps are staying in front of her legs as she runs, but as she stops and the camera cuts, they are behind her again. (00:01:34)
Continuity mistake: In the very first shot of the episode, Rey and BB-8 are walking in the sand, and she is coming up on a giant sand dune to her left before her. Other large sand dunes are also visible in the background. Yet after that first shot, none of the massive dunes are ever seen again, and when they encounter the sand worm, all the dunes around them are significantly smaller. (00:00:23)
Continuity mistake: When Rey catches BB-8 and then runs, she scales a downed AT-AT Walker to get to safety. She runs up one of the Walker's back legs and stops at the top. Then, a couple of shots later, when the sand worm is looking up at her, suddenly the Walker's head is now in the direction she just came from. (00:02:14)
Continuity mistake: After Rey gets on top of the AT-AT safely away from the sand worm, she is holding BB-8 in her arms. He's covered with blue slime in several spots. In the next shot, when she sets him down, the large blob and smaller blobs on his head suddenly become one, and then the slime on his lower body is significantly more. (00:02:07)
Continuity mistake: When Rey is carrying BB-8 and running to grab her staff, then across the AT-AT leg, the heart-shaped lines on BB-8's "face" have disappeared. (00:02:03)
Revealing mistake: Just after Rey catches BB-8, she looks back at the sand worm. Suddenly, in this shot, you can see the rigging seam on its neck where it connects to the upper part of the mouth, which is not visible in other shots. Usually, the neck seam blends in or is not visible, but in this shot, you can see where the neck and top of the mouth are separate pieces in this 2D rig. (00:01:59)
