Continuity mistake: When Barbossa looks through his telescope at Interceptor, before Jack says, "I'm having a thought..." she's a good distance away from the Pearl and all her sails are out. Then in most of the wide and close-up shots of Interceptor, some of the sails differ at the bow and stern. Sails raised in one shot, are lowered in another, then some raised again and also some are raised but blowing wildly, then in the successive shot, it's down and still. Their proximity varies throughout and there are way too many changes between shots. (01:20:45)

Continuity mistake: When Elizabeth is dining with Barbossa aboard the Black Pearl, cutting between the front shots and side shots she holds the turkey leg differently in her left hand. Also held differently in her right hand is the bread when Barbossa offers her the apple and she looks at the monkey between the two shots. (00:55:10)

Continuity mistake: Jack chases after the monkey on the broken mast leading across to the Black Pearl. When he gets there, Barbossa says, "Why thank you, Jack." Barbossa's left arm is up and he's holding the rope. In that first shot, much of his white sleeve is out. In the next shot of Barbossa, the white sleeve is mostly covered. Then in his next shot, much of the white sleeve is out again. (01:29:50)

Continuity mistake: At Jack's hanging, after Will sees Mr Cotton's parrot he walks over to Norrington, Elizabeth and her father. In the wide shot, when he says, "Governor Swann," the woman in the grey hat, white shawl, and floral pattern dress, who stands behind him to his right, in the next close-ups, is not in this wide shot. Continuity mistake: When Mr Gibbs shouts what sounds like, "Do it you gobs, or it's you we'll load into the cannons!" while the Region 2 DVD subtitles read "Do it you gobs!" which matches his mouth movements, the Region 1 subtitles say "do it you dogs..." yet his lips clearly form a B not a G. A bizarre difference between versions. (01:24:10)

Continuity mistake: In the cave, Ragetti is holding a parasol over his shoulder, rubbing his eye. In the close-up, as Pintel says, "Stop rubbing it," there's no sign of Ragetti's parasol, nor any shadow on his hair or shoulders, and the folded parasol that Pintel is holding, is much lower in the close-up, than it is in the wide shot that follows and so forth. Continuity mistake: Before Elizabeth's blood ritual, Jack is rowing the boat into the cave and Will is holding the pole with the attached lantern. As Jack says, "Any man who falls behind, is left behind," Will is holding the pole with his left hand high up on the pole and his right down below. In the next shot, Will says, "No heroes amongst thieves," and Will's right hand is now high up on the pole. (01:09:10)

Continuity mistake: After Will rescues Elizabeth and brings her aboard the Interceptor, in the first shot from behind Elizabeth, Anamaria isn't holding her hat and the pirate behind Mr. Cotton is holding the tail of the parrot to keep it still. In the next couple of shots from the side, Anamaria is holding her hat because it's so windy. Just before Mr. Gibbs says, "Keep to the code," the close-up on Anamaria shows her hands down again, with no wind. In the next wide shot, Anamaria is holding her hat again due to the wind. Continuity mistake: Anamaria has her hands on Jack's shoulders in the front shot, just as she said, "The Black Pearl is yours," and then she removes her hands. In the next successive side shot, her hands are still on Jack's shoulders, she then removes them again as she smiles at him. Jack's left sleeve is different in both shots. (02:12:15)

Deliberate mistake: As was admitted on the commentary, the angle of the moonlight in the stateroom, which has a deep overhang outside of the doors, was deliberately vastly exaggerated, to enhance the shots with Governor Swann battling with the disembodied skeletal arm. (01:56:25)

Revealing mistake: Jack says, "Or you could surrender." Soon after, Barbossa smacks Jack in the face and we can see Jack's wig and red forehead scarf coming off his head, as he's going down. You can clearly see Tony Angelotti's (Depp's stunt double) forehead, sideburns and hairline in the right hand corner of the screen. (The shot right after this one is Jack running with his arms waving.) (01:57:15)

Deliberate mistake: After Will and Jack swing aboard Interceptor, Will cuts four lines from the belaying pins on Interceptor, that lead up to Dauntless and each line snaps back. As Interceptor pulls away though, we see other lines that are still connected to Dauntless, but then the shot cuts away. Because of a mishap during filming, it was the only shot Director, Gore Verbinski had of Interceptor pulling away from Dauntless. (00:47:05)

Continuity mistake: Aboard Interceptor, the boom slams into Will and takes him out over the water. In the close-up shot of Will hanging there, the rope lines that are between Will's arms on the boom are not in the close-up shot of the boom, before it hit Will. Just the line to his left, can be seen in the boom shot. (00:49:35)

Continuity mistake: In the blacksmith's shop, on the two stationary wood posts near the donkey, that have the assortment of swords hanging, the direction of some of the sword handles change in some shots. Seen in the background of some shots or when Will grabs for a sword. One example is, when Jack looks at the red hot poker after poking the donkey and when Will comes in, jumps down the step, then stops the donkey. (00:21:45)

Revealing mistake: When Will opens the door to the blacksmith shop, on his immediate left outside, there is a stone wall with a plaque on it. That same plaque can be seen hanging high up over a doorway across the courtyard from the blacksmith's shop, when Jack goes into the shop earlier. The wall and plaque were added later, to that shot of Will. The plaque should not be able to be seen so closely, at that angle and distance, in the shot of Will opening the door. Continuity mistake: On the dock, after the rescue, Jack sees the medallion on Elizabeth's neck. In the next shot as Norrington and his men come, we see that Jack's coat, hat, and other effects are lying scattered around on the ground. Yet later, when Mullroy bends down, he quickly picks up Jack's things to show to Norrington, and the gun, compass and sword are neatly placed on Jack's hat. (00:16:50)

Continuity mistake: In the close-up of young Elizabeth, as she sings on the bow of the ship, she's standing between two posts of the railing. Each post has rope wound around it. In the next few shots of her, the existence, the amount and the thickness of the rope on each post changes drastically. (00:00:45)

Continuity mistake: Jack cuts the ties of Elizabeth's corset and drops the knife down vertically, with the blade pointing up, right beside her head. In the wide shot, just as Norrington runs up, the knife is now horizontal. No one touched the knife. When he removes the corset, in Jack's shot, he hands it to Murtogg to hold and puts his hand down. In the next shot of Murtogg, Jack's hand is still on the corset. (00:16:35)

Continuity mistake: As the soldiers are firing at Jack after his escape, he runs across the footbridge. In the far wide shot, he crosses the center of the bridge and passes the man with the sack on his back. In the next close-up shot, Jack is just getting to the center of the bridge and starts to pass the man with the sack on his back. (00:20:20)

Continuity mistake: Jack hides behind a statue outside the blacksmith shop. The soldiers run past a woman and her vegetable cart whose wheels are closest to the blacksmith shop. After Jack removes his sword, he looks around the courtyard. The cart's legs are now closest to the blacksmith shop and the wheels are now at the other end, the complete opposite of how the cart was positioned in the first shot. (00:20:35)
