Super 8 (2011)

Trivia: If you thought you recognized "Donny" (clerk at camera store) but couldn't place him, he played the blond-haired kid on "7th Heaven" and was in "Little Secrets" (2002). David Gallagher (born in 1985) looked a lot different playing an adult role.

Super 8 (2011)

Continuity mistake: During the wake, a red/burgundy car is parked along the curb after the Lambs' driveway sometimes but not others. It is first seen at 00:01:30 immediately past the driveway but is not there when a light-colored (white, grey, light blue?) car is parked along the curb two or three houses down. When the sheriff's car has backed out of the driveway and onto the road, the red car is suddenly back again, a little way past the driveway entrance but before the light-colored car. The red car could not have just got to that spot because Mr. Lamb backing out of the driveway would have blocked it from getting there plus the road may have been slippery/icy (where drivers need to go slowly). Super 8 (2011)

Continuity mistake: There is no center line dividing the lanes on the street where the Lambs live, but the street is divided by a double-yellow line when Mr. Lamb puts Mr. Dainard into the sheriff's car. (00:02:43 - 00:03:43)

Stupidity: While the train cars are still derailing in front of them, the kids stay on the porch and actually start running toward the oncoming train. Next, they turn around and run in the opposite direction, while staying the same distance away from the train tracks and flying cars/debris. When they run out of the porch to stay parallel to the train, they again turn around and run to the middle of the porch and look like they are jumping around together, clueless where to run to next - running in either direction parallel to the train was not getting them away from derailment. Then they disperse in various directions but stay off the porch. (00:17:24)

Deliberate mistake: The scenes involving the 8mm projector and screen did not also contain legitimate light rays from the projector to screen or show any obstructions on the screen despite Joe or someone else between the projector and screen. What showed on the screen is what would be expected if using a videotape or DVD.

Trivia: When Donny was driving Joe and friends to the school, he said he could "get back into disco." The events in "Super 8" happened around the first week of June 1979. The "death of disco" is dated by many to July 12, 1979 ("Disco Demolition Night") - the month after the "Get the Knack" album (with "My Sharona" on side 2) was released.

Trivia: Ryan Lee (Cary) was wearing braces when he auditioned for "Super 8", but had to wear fake braces during filming so the braces fit the time period (1979 - when braces were bigger/bulkier).

Super 8 (2011)

Factual error: None of the people the "monster" hung from the ceiling (the Sheriff, Alice, the woman in rollers reported missing earlier) suffered ANY ill-effects. The Sheriff and Alice were taken around the same time (after dark) and it was nighttime again when Joe went into the building to try to find Alice. The "monster" apparently had just placed Alice and the woman on the ground, so - assuming they were hung right after being abducted - they had been suspended inverted for at least 15 hours. [If Alice got home as late as 6:00 AM (around twilight or before sunrise) and Joe found her right after dusk (around 9:00 PM), at least 15 hours had passed. The woman was reported missing much earlier.] Death could have occurred from being suspended upside-down for that many hours. They may have survived, but there should have been some noticeable adverse effect, such as blurred vision, dizziness, or sore/weak legs. Perhaps "fight or flight" got them moving, but even then, wobbly legs would show. (01:33:58)

Other mistake: The scene after Mr. Lamb puts Joe in the sheriff's car has background snow (in June). There's a little snow visible when Mr. Lamb and Joe are going into the house and, once inside, out the window. A little later, much more snow can be seen out the window, similar to the opening scene when it was February. (00:52:40 - 00:53:27)

Super 8 (2011)

Other mistake: Joe and Alice were somehow able to get the sheriff down from his inverse suspension, but - given the height of the ceiling and depth of the hole - the sheriff's feet (where they would be tied for the inverted suspension) would be out of reach. Moreover, surely a knife or cutting instrument of some kind would have been needed to cut the rope (assuming a rope was used) - did Joe happen to have something in his backpack? What was shown to the viewer was Joe and Alice using their hands on the sheriff's waist to lightly sway him two or three times in an attempt to get him down. The viewer next saw the sheriff when all but his feet had landed on the ground. For the sheriff to fall unharmed - head first - is far-fetched.

Trivia: The song Joe and his friends were singing while waiting for Alice to pick them up, "My Sharona", was the #1 song in 1979. The song was the first song on Side #2 of the Knacks' "Get The Knack." If the Lillian public schools' last day was the last week of May or the first week of June, the boys were singing "My Sharona" before the album was released on June 11, 1979.

Factual error: When Joe goes to the cemetery, all the trees have fall foliage (yellow/orange/red). The movie takes place during the first week of June, when all the leaves are green. (00:53:52)

Other mistake: After the train wreck, Alice would not be able to see the fake blood standing so far away in the dark and with Joe's body blocking her view... or with all the still-falling ashes floating in the air to boot. (00:20:28)

Other mistake: When Joe picks up one of the cubes and puts it in his jacket pocket, Charles is nowhere around him. Later, Charles tells Joe that he told him not to touch it [cube] in the first place.
