Factual error: For being set in the spring in San Francisco, the trees (look at Maggie coming back home in the intro) are rather barren and there are dead leaves in the grass.

Continuity mistake: When the culprit tells Henry "You're coming with me", the gun on the table changes position between shots and the pen moves next to it from the opposite part of the book. (01:13:45)

Continuity mistake: When Maggie helps her daughter tie her apron, suddenly the veggies and the other item on the counter change position after the cut. Maggie's ponytail also goes from the front of her shoulder, to behind her back. (01:06:50)

Stupidity: In the flashback about the way the victim was poisoned, it would seem that the murderer straight out went to a waitress and handed them a single chalice of poisoned champagne, ordering the waitress to give that exact glass to the victim. That's just a little bit absurd; if it's a flashback based on a testimony, the case should have been solved in 0.1 minutes once the waitress says that that very well known person asked them to bring a glass to the victim - it's a request highly unusual and that would be easily remembered. If it's just some wild guess of the detective, that's a mighty strange way to imagine how things went, rather than just the killer slipping venom in the victim's glass when they were not looking. Factual error: When Henry looks at the boat photo at Layton's, the ZIP code of the paper above is the proper one for San Francisco, but the calling card nearby has a nonexistent one, 90344 (together with the usual bogus 555 phone numbers). (01:04:20)

Continuity mistake: When Henry serves the omelette with "everything AND tobasco" to Inspector Maggie Price, the glass has different levels of orange juice depending on the camera angle. (01:00:10)

Continuity mistake: Sunday morning, Henry shows up at Maggie's and woos her family. He puts one plate with the breakfast in front of her mom, who is just putting down a mug. In the next shot she's already with a fork in the same hand in a brutally jumpy transition. (00:59:00)

Continuity mistake: Party scene for Sally's book premiere, and like productions on a budget do, extras are recycled to make it seem much bigger of a deal than it is. One good example is when they are done and get out of the building, and come across the blonde with a grey cape that was one of the people most frequently in the background when they approached Sally inside. (00:54:20 - 00:57:00)

Sammo

Factual error: Ian and Sally's photo at the fundraiser is supposed to be from one week "earlier", so before the murder; the date on the cheque is 06-05-11, though, which would be 4 years prior the year the movie is set in. Further confirming the mistake, the murder happened "on the 12th" (no month specified, but then has to be either May or June) and the day after is a Saturday (the book presentation), both not compatible with this timeline. (00:51:40)

Continuity mistake: The Gourmet Detective is cooking some shrimps while the threatening note sits on his kitchen counter. During the scene there is a lack of continuity between shots in Lucy's left arm. Her hand goes from closed to open, then she leans on it, but she is not in the reverse shot. (00:50:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When the gourmet detective tells Maggie that those are the best ribs she'll ever have, his hands go from fists to open at the cut. (00:49:40)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: At Raymond's house, the detectives talk with him and with Peter. When Peter says that business was benefitting from the perceived rivalry, the wine in his glass suddenly goes down an inch between shots. (00:47:30)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: When the dynamic duo finds Oliver lying on the carpet, he changes position between shots - the tie is under his outstretched arm in the second one. (00:37:20)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Henry tells Maggie that his assistant will look into the name "Todd Armand" from the note. In the background, a production assistant character is walking about - but he is coming from a different direction in foreground when Maggie starts getting salty about the gourmet detective's proactivity. (00:34:30)

Sammo

Revealing mistake: In the close-up with Maggie ending the call to the office ("Bailey's Office"), the display indicates that the call lasted a whole 8 seconds. That is, needless to say, disproportionately short. (00:32:05)

Sammo

Character mistake: During their bickering about the coffee, the idea is that the officers just drank some coffee made from beans coming from excrements of rhesus macaque. That's how the civet coffee is made; macaques merely chew and spit the beans, they do not 'process' them (that'd be the kopi luwak that he references immediately after). (00:27:00)

Other mistake: Captain Forsyth is looking at the dossier about The Gourmet Detective; the interrogation happens in the evening with everyone still dressed for the formal dinner, but the file was printed at 9 AM. There's no reason why the police would have printed that file at that time of the day. (00:23:15)

Sammo

Continuity mistake: Captain Forsyth tosses on the table the dossier with Henry's data. The position on the table changes between shots - just look at how the corners of the folder stick out from the stacked papers underneath it. (00:23:20)

Sammo

Factual error: The food expert protagonist says, and it's the key plot point, that lamprey is deadly if not prepared properly, due to the natural toxins it contains. Simply put, it's not the case.
