Trivia: A Study in Pink has many similarities to the original Sherlock Holmes story A study in Scarlet - which is set in the late nineteenth century. In both stories, Watson is introduced to Holmes by a mutual friend after returning from fighting in Afghanistan, a body is found in an empty house, the killer is a hansom/taxi driver who is dying of an embolism and his method of killing is to force the victim to choose between a poison tablet and harmless one.
