Continuity mistake: The gas station attendant drops the gas hose as the bird hits him and the first spray of gas wets the gravel to the right of it. The next time the hose is seen it's moved closer to the cement below the pump, it's shooting at a different angle and the gravel to the right is dry. (01:24:35)

Revealing mistake: When they show the perspective of being in Melanie's driver's seat looking out the windshield we don't see Melanie's legs as you would expect, but a mechanism that allows someone to steer from the passenger seat so the camera has an unobstructed view of the driver's seat. Continuity mistake: The children pass the cream-colored station wagon parked across from the white picket fence as they run down the hill. But you can tell by looking at the rear fins that it's a different car than the one Melanie brings the two children into several shots later. (01:14:00)

Continuity mistake: As Lydia walks through Mr. Faucet's door her pocketbook is brown. We get several other good looks at it as she walks into the house and down the hall and it's now black. (00:59:35)

Continuity mistake: As the kids are almost at the bottom of the hill they pass the church, fence and propane tanks again that were back at the top of the hill, on the same block as the school. (01:14:25)

Continuity mistake: As Melanie holds out her right hand to shield the boy in the white jacket we get a really good close-up of his neck. It was bleeding three shots ago as a crow was attacking him but now it's not. (01:13:50)

Visible crew/equipment: When Melanie pulls up to the school to check on Cathy we hear voices of the children singing inside and a crew member's reflection is seen moving in the car door as she opens it. (01:08:30)

Continuity mistake: After coming back out of the school Melanie sits down to have a smoke and the strap of her handbag is in the crook of her arm. In the next shot it's around her wrist touching her watch. (01:09:55)

Continuity mistake: The seat that Mitch sits on is placed right in front of the piano. Later in the scene it moves to the right without being touched. (01:40:25)

Continuity mistake: As they lift Melanie off the couch and walk her to the door her hair and the front right section of the head bandage change between shots. (01:56:15)

Continuity mistake: After Lydia cleans off the coffee table when she returns and sits down there are only two boxes and a bowl on the coffee table. When Melanie brings Cathy back from the bathroom there are more than three items, such as an ashtray, on the table and Mitch and Lydia haven't moved from their seats. (01:39:20)

Continuity mistake: After Lydia gets off the phone the wires of the light fixture hanging over the dining room table are pushed around to the sides of the bulb so you can barely see them. In the next shot it's been rotated and you can see them very well. (00:35:25)

Continuity mistake: In the wide shot of the party scene as everyone is running into the house a girl in a bright red sweater and white skirt pulls her mother in the blue dress by the hand. In the next shot they've changed positions and are together with the mother's arm around the girl's back. (00:53:00)

Continuity mistake: As the store manager takes Melanie outside to look at Mitch's house, the dog license sign on the window of the door is reversed from when Melanie walked up. (00:13:05)

Continuity mistake: The orange car that catches fire, when the guy throws the match, moves between shots. When he lights up the cigarette there's a white parking line to left of the tire. In the previous shot it wasn't there. (01:25:15)

Audio problem: As Melanie parks in front of Annie's house the audio of her car engine is not in sync with the film. The engine sound stops before the exhaust stops coming out of her tail pipe and she eventually pops the clutch to stop the engine from running on. (00:16:00)

Continuity mistake: The last piece of wood that Melanie hands to Mitch is not the same one that he grabs. The end is split and doesn't have a prominent knot in it but when Mitch grabs it there's no split and it has a large knot in it. (01:34:20)
