Corrected entry: The Black Eyed Peas song "Shut Up" is playing when the team comes into the party. The movie is based on a true story that took place in 1999, and this song wasn't made until 2003.
Correction: It's nowhere said that the story takes place in 1999 - the real story did, the one in the movie not (e.g. Carter became coach in 1997). It's just an abstract of his story as coach and as stated at the beginning of the movie "Inspired by the life of Ken Carter".

At the time, the future Cleveland Cavaliers star was an anonymous middle schooler living in a small town in Ohio, and there's no way a Californian high schooler would call himself "the next LeBron James".
