Smoke Signals

Factual error: When Victor and Thomas are riding on the bus from Idaho to Arizona, the same driver is driving the bus the whole trip. In reality, the driver would have changed a few times on such a long trip.

Smoke Signals mistake picture

Continuity mistake: In the flashback, where Victor's parents ask him who his favourite Indian is, before he walks out the door, there are two girls on the porch playing with a sparkler while leaning on the rail, facing away from the door. In the next shot, in a close-up where Victor comes through the door, the girls are now leaning against the exterior of the house next to the door, facing each other. No sparkler in sight. (00:25:11)

Trivia: In one of the flashbacks, Arnold asks Victor who his favorite Indian is. Victor responds with "Nobody." The actor who plays Arnold, Gary Farmer, played a Native American character named "Nobody" in the 1995 western film, 'Dead Man'. (00:25:26)

Randy Peone: It's a good day to be indigenous.

More quotes from Smoke Signals

Question: In what state is the reservation in the film supposed to be set in? The boy who speaks constantly (can't remember his name) speaks with a Minnesota accent, but I never heard references to Minnesota in the film. Can someone help please help me with this?

Answer: Smoke Signals was shot on site at the Coeur d'Alene Reservation in Idaho. The actor who plays young Thomas Builds-the-Fire (the one in braids and glasses) is from Canada.

Question: What does Thomas mean by "There are some children who are pillars of flame that burn everything they touch and there are some children who are just pillars of ash that fall apart when you touch them. Me and Victor, we were children born of flame and ash."

Answer: He's basically saying that Victor is strong and standoffish and he is weak and sensitive.
