Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Deliberate mistake: When the kids are about to jump start the trap Phoebe hides behind the school bus door. Half a second later, when the trap opens, she's nowhere to be seen, not even jumping or stepping inside the bus. Then half a second later she has managed to get inside, turn around and protect her head while the bus windows burst. It all happens in real time for their hairs are still fluttering. It sure paces up the scene, but it's really awkward.

Continuity mistake: When they are chasing the 'muncher' ghost down the street, the light bar is only seen flashing on the Ecto 1 when seen from inside the restaurant. The rest of the time they are not on. (00:59:00 - 00:59:30)

Audio problem: During the Walmart scene, it seems they edited in Gary saying "Oh, God." However, it's over no visible mouth or throat movements. (01:15:17)

Trivia: Director Jason Reitman is the son of Ivan Reitman, director of the original "Ghostbusters" and "Ghostbusters II." As a child, Jason actually had a cameo in "Ghostbusters II" during the birthday party in the beginning. (He's the kid who tells Ray he heard the Ghostbusters were "full of crap").

Trivia: The same advertisement for Stay-Puft Marshmallows in the original movie is visible on the side of one of the buildings in the town. It's in roughly the same shape as the billboard in the 1984 film.

Trivia: Originally, sequels were planned for the 2016 "Ghostbusters" reboot. However, when the film attracted some controversy and fell short at the box office, plans for the sequels were abandoned. Eventually, an idea was hatched for a direct sequel to the original two films, which became "Ghostbusters: Afterlife."

More trivia for Ghostbusters: Afterlife

Mr. Grooberson: There hasn't been a ghost sighting in 30 years. New York in the '80s... it's like The Walking Dead. Your dad never mentioned this to you?
Callie: It's just my mom.

Trevor's classmate: What are you doing here in Summerville?
Trevor: Honestly, my mom won't say it, but we're completely broke. And the only thing that's left in our name is this creepy old farmhouse my grandfather left us in the middle of nowhere.

Question: When Phoebe is on the phone with Ray, he mentions that the Ghostbusters fire house is now a Starbucks. In the post-credits scene, we see that Winston has purchased the fire house so the Ghostbusters can get back to business, but the fire house looks like it has been abandoned for several years and no other company ever took it over. Did I miss something here?

Answer: Ray was probably being sarcastic, and was simply making a general comment about gentrification in the area.

Answer: Perhaps nobody wanted to take over the place for a few reasons. Historical purpose, high cost... hauntings.?

Answer: It's been 40 years since the Ghostbusters disbanded, Ray mostly likely passed by the old place and saw a Starbucks there. It has since shut down.

But they left the ghost trap active? Not likely.

Question: When Trevor is flying over the berm onto the road, I hear a voice which sounds like Mandarin or other Chinese dialect. Can anyone tell what is said?

Answer: Yes, it is still canon. Director Jason Reitman has confirmed it is, and there are actually lots of easter eggs referencing it in "Afterlife." For example, Ray still has his bookstore from "Ghostbusters II." The "dancing toaster" is in the farmhouse. Etc. They chose not to directly reference it in dialogue since it didn't have much to do with the plot, but there are plenty of hidden details confirming it is still canon. Reitman has also said that there are plans to possibly bring back more plot/characters from "Ghostbusters II" in the future. (It just depends on what direction the sequel ends up going in).
