Matt decides not to approve the sale of his family's land holding to a corporation, opposing his relatives' wishes and saying he wants to find a way of leaving it untouched by developers before the trust expires in seven years. Julie, comes to the hospital to talk to Matt and says she knows about the her husband, Brian's affair with Matt's wife, Elizabeth, saying she forgives her but was deeply hurt. Matt, Alex, and Scottie scatter Elizabeth's ashes in the ocean. The film ends with the three of them watching TV together, seeming content.
