Factual error: When Meryl Streep is walking outside and talking to Mrs. Miller about the potential abuses of her son, you can see a basketball court in the background and on the court is a 3-point line. The movie is supposed to take place in 1964 and the 3 point line wasn't introduced until 1979/1980. (01:10:20)steven_frankel

Character mistake: After Father Flynn has completed his first sermon, Donald Miller comes into the dressing room and says "That was some sermon, Father." Flynn then says "Hi Jim". Jim is the name of the other altar boy. He should have said Donald.Elaine Kronhaus
Continuity mistake: During the meeting among Sisters Aloysious and James and Father Flynn in the principal's office, Sister James has turned in her chair to face the other two standing at the door and says she smelled alcohol on Donald Miller's breath. Her hands at this point are gripping the back of the chair. The camera angle changes to behind the desk, showing Sister James still turned toward the door in her chair after speaking this line, but her hands are resting on her leg.MovieFan612
