Loft

Luc tried to kill the girl - a former mistress of Vincent - with an insulin overdose, unable to cope with her rejection of his advances. Believing her dead, he staged her suicide and convinced the other loft owners to drug Vincent and leave him with the body, as punishment for his seduction of their loved ones, which Luc had secretly taped. Filip was tasked with removing any incriminating evidence from the loft and slashed the girl's wrists in a fit of rage, killing her; the drugged Vincent is found, arrested and accused of the murder. Chris figures out the deception and confronts Luc in the loft; Luc throws himself off the building. One year later Filip is facing trial for manslaughter, Marnix has reconciled with his wife, Vincent is divorced and left with nothing but the loft to his name, and Chris makes a fresh start with Anne.

Question: When Vincent's friends set him up, they set the scene so that the police would think that the girl drugged Vincent and then cut her wrist with the knife. But they already know the girl killed herself with the pills, or at least they think she did. At the end of the movie, female police tells Chris that the cause of death was not the pills, but it was the wrist cut. But if she really had killed herself with the pills, police would have been telling him the opposite, which would have raised a lot of questions. Were they lucky? Were they dumb enough to think that the cause of death would not have been discovered in the autopsy, or magically it would appear as the wrist cut? Or am I missing something here? Or the writers missed this?
