Factual error: Having run out of coal, Holmes gets the brilliant idea to get fuel from another source. Look at him as he crosses over to the carriage; to the left, you can see an electric line tower, not quite 1891-like. (01:29:45)
Factual error: The locomotive of the train that Watson, Holmes, and Toby board early in the movie is a SECR D Class, the first of which came out in 1901. The movie is supposed to be set in 1891, though. (00:20:00)
Continuity mistake: Holmes, Watson and Freud follow the mysterious man in front of a chemist's. Whenever the guy is looking at them from a distance, Holmes' handkerchief is visible, even when in intermediate shots he tucked his hand, and the handkerchief with it, in his pocket. (01:05:10)
