Stupidity: When Clark is fighting Evil Superman in the junkyard, Evil Superman looks up and sees a huge magnet directly over Clark and Clark notices it too. Evil Superman uses his heat vision on the chain causing it to heat up then break dropping the magnet on Clark. Clark had plenty of time to get out of the way before the chain snapped but he just stands there when it finally falls on him.

Suggested correction: Isn't it implied that the junkyard battle is all in Superman's head? "Clark" acts timid, indecisive, and overall strange during the scene because the scene is the manifestation of his identity crisis, and we all sometimes act in ways that make no real-world sense in dreams.

The battle all in Superman's head? When good Superman flies off, the physical signs of the battle are visible behind him.

Agreed. This battle was certainly not in Superman's head.

Suggested correction: It's pretty clear the town made a big deal of Superman's visit. There was a parade, a brass band, and the Mayor gave him the key to the city in front of a sizable crowd. It's not unreasonable to think Gus and Webster learned ahead of time, especially considering Webster ran an operation there.

Continuity mistake: In the junkyard, when Clark takes the iron lid and gets out of the hole, he leans on his right. In the following shot he is coming out again and repeating the movement.

Question: Why was Lex Luthor absent in this movie? Not only he didn't appear but wasn't even mentioned. Did Gene Hackman refuse to reprise the role in this movie?

Answer: There were rumors that Hackman was angry with the Salkind Brothers (the producers) for firing director Richard Donner, though Hackman later disputed saying that. His explanation, though he may have been downplaying the real reason, was that he had a number of other movie projects at the time, and he also did not wish to continually play the same villain in an ongoing movie series.
