The Iron Giant

Factual error: In the scene where the Iron Giant is spinning the boy around in a junk car he is holding, notice that the car resembles a 1959 Cadillac...however since the film is set around 1957, this is not a likely car to be found anywhere yet, much less a junk yard. (00:46:20)

Factual error: During the fight with the Giant, the USS Nautilus is preparing for a missile launch. In real life, the USS Nautilus (SSN-571) didn't have ballistic missile capabilities. In addition, if the submarine did, it would be of the Regulus missile type; a cruise missile fired by rockets and a ramp on the submarine. The film shows a Polaris-type missile being launched, which wouldn't have entered service until 1960-1961, well after the events of the movie (1957).

Continuity mistake: Throughout the film the size of the Iron Giant varies from being able to hide in a barn shed to sticking out well above a town to be spotted from a fair distance. A good example is when the Iron Giant launches himself after a fall from a cliff in front of Hogarth's mother.

Kent Mansley: The biggest thing in this town is probably the homecoming queen.

Trivia: After Mansley's car is eaten by the Giant and disappears, Mansley is trying to get Marv to look at it but doesn't realise it's gone yet. Marv then asks, "What are we looking at here, Manly?" leaving out the S in Mansley to call him Manly. This was a mistake on the voice actor's part, but Brad Bird liked it and thought it appropriate for the character, so left that take in.
