I saw this movie in theaters with my son.

The live action How to Train your Dragon was really, really damn good!
It was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Any fears I had of it being soulless were dashed within minutes as all the actors really put their hearts into it. The animations on the dragons were well done and integrated into the live action well. Some of the actors didn't exactly match their animated character counterparts but they still all did great jobs.
I thought the guy playing Hiccup was a bit too old and too tall for the part... but still he did great.

getting Gerard Butler to return and play Stoick was perfect and he did just as amazing of a job in the character in the flesh as he did in animation, if not more so. He really sold the acting.

I need to go back and watch the original animated film again to be sure. But I dare say... and this may come off blasphemy... that I liked this live action version better than the original. And I never ever thought I'd live to say that about any of these... well except the 101 Dalmatians live action from the 90s. I still like that way better than the animated 101 original.

so this turned out to be exactly what I thought it was going to be and more, and what I was hoping for.

Dreamworks just kicked Disney's ass so hard when it comes to doing a live action remake of an animated film...that they are going to be feeling this one for decades. Go dreamworks. You nailed it.
