Factual error: In the nighttime hostage rescue scene, the rescue helicopter has its right and green navigation lights on, which are designed to show other aircraft where it is and which direction it is heading. This of course would not be the case while staging a clandestine operation in hostile territory.
Continuity mistake: On the rooftop while shooting at the Russians, John dives through a skylight. In a side shot he's falling back first, then he lands on his front.
Continuity mistake: When the lights get cut off near the start it is dark outside, but when the camera shows a window it is light outside. (00:13:22 - 00:14:56)
Factual error: After the investigation the barrier tape (crime scene tape) would have been taken down. Also, there is no reason to have barrier tape inside a residence if the outside is already marked. (00:29:28 - 00:30:00)
Suggested correction: There could be legitimate uses of crime scene or barricade tape inside of a structure, such as roping off an area that forensics has not yet got to or finished. There might be a lot of officers walking through the house, so the tape could be used to restrict their movement to prevent contamination of evidence. As a warning that only authorized personnel may enter, news reporters and others would know to stay out.
Good suggestion but wrong. If that was still an active crime scene there would have been officers outside standing guard to make sure no-one will/can go inside. BTW: Retired SAPD.
I don't doubt that your former SAPD had a particular procedure, but not all police departments follow the same procedures and there are often gaps between theory and practice. Furthermore, many law enforcement agencies make a distinction between "outer perimeter" and "inner perimeter." The inner perimeter (typically where physical evidence has been located) may be taped off with additional yellow tape, but the trend has been toward using red tape to make it more distinguishable from the yellow.
I don't know where you are getting your information but I also don't know what every agency use in the United States. From those I have seen (26yrs with the SAPD) I have only seen black on yellow. Red on white or blue on white is usually European. Like you said: "many law enforcement agencies", well we didn't and that is what I am basing my experience and expertise on. We only use 1 outer perimeter barrier that was manned by officers and they checked everyone before going inside the perimeter.
Other mistake: A panel wagon stops in front of one of the Syria team participants in Atlanta. A man gets out and starts firing a rifle at the team member's car. The sound is of 14 rounds fired, but there are only nine muzzle flashes shown. Also, the bullets do strike the windshield, and some of them show pock marks, but none seem to go through the windshield. (00:11:35)
Other mistake: After completing a CIA sponsored operation in Syria, a helicopter comes in to exfiltrate the team. It lands and also takes off with full navigation lights and red beacons on. This would never be done in a combat area. Those light should have been off the entire time. (00:06:55)
Deliberate mistake: The Glock pistol the dying Russian assassin attempts to fire clicks, symbolizing it's out of ammo, or had a malfunction such as failure to ignite primer which is extraordinarily unlikely. His action symbolized a dry weapon. When a modern handgun in particular a Glock runs dry, the slide stop lever engages the slide and leaves the slide open until a new magazine is inserted and the slide is racked or the slide stop is pushed down. On a dry Glock the trigger can't be pressed until the slide is cocked. (00:16:45 - 00:17:30)
Deliberate mistake: After John poured gasoline on/around the Mercedes, set it on fire, and it was surrounded by flames, he was able to put his hand through the flames to open the rear passenger door and get inside. He did not burn his hand on the hot metal door handle and did not catch any of his clothes on fire or even singe his hair. His hand was not injured because he was able to hold and aim his pistol with it. (00:35:04)
Factual error: It's revealed the sniper weapon being utilized against the Seal team was a Barrett M82 50 caliber (50 BMG). The sniper first exposes himself when he wounds a Seal in the lower back, it appears. A 50 BMG would evaporate the subject and turn rip his torso from his legs, it would look like a red mist of blood. Plus those rounds can punch through bricks and concrete which the team is taking cover behind. Maybe not the first round but the second or third for sure depending on concrete strength. Factual error: Operators do NOT leave their dead in the field. John made the comment that 1 of his men were killed, but they did not bring his body out. (00:07:00)
