Continuity mistake: When Chiron tells Kevin that he's dealing ("trappin' "), Kev asks, "What?" The toothpick is in his hand, all the way to the end of the seat. Cut to a different angle, and when we see Kevin's face again, the pick is in at the corner of his mouth. (01:31:30)
Continuity mistake: At the school cafeteria, Chiron's bully is talking with Chiron's crush. Kevin has his hand on top of a carton of grape juice, but in the next shot, he's holding a fork instead. (00:59:30)
Continuity mistake: Chiron came back home, finding his mother in a manic state from withdrawal. She runs upstairs. Chiron is still downstairs, and you can get a good look at the way he is wearing his backpack, backwards on his chest, both straps on. Paula goes back downstairs, stares him down and says, "I need some money." Now the left strap is off the shoulder. Then it's on again, and intermittently off again (when she calls Teresa a b*tch). Continuity mistake: In Act 2, Teresa jokes with Chiron about the gin that Juan used to slip him. When she asks him, "What's wrong?", her position is entirely different, resting her cheek on her fist. But as the shot changes, she is back with her arm down. (00:40:15)
Continuity mistake: After the scene with little Chiron taking a bath, we see Juan in the street with his business associate. He lights himself a cigarette and stares in the direction of a car, his hands both low. But in the next shot, he is holding the cigarette up high in his right hand. (00:27:00)
Continuity mistake: Kevin runs up to 'Little' and they have a casual stroll and chat. Kevin asks him why he lets the others push him around. Chiron asks, "So? What I gotta do?" Kevin's gold chain is fully visible. Cut to Kevin's answer, and the chain is under his T-shirt. When he gives him the first push, it's out again. When he just grins at him before the friend reacts, it's tucked into the shirt again. (00:15:10)
