Due to losing his fortune irrevocably to his younger brother, Edward releases Lucy from their engagement (she immediately goes off and snares the one with the cash), rides to Barton Cottage, proposes to Eleanor and becomes a vicar. Brandon marries Marianne and Willoughby sits on his horse halfway up a hill on the verge of tears, watching his true love live happily ever after.
Continuity mistake: Toward the end of the film, Elinor is gardening and has dirt and mud all over her hands. Upon realising Edward is riding toward the house, she hurriedly wipes her hands on her apron, smearing a good amount of dirt on it. When she then removes the apron while standing inside the house, both the apron and her hands are barely dirty.
Colonel Brandon: Miss Dashwood, Miss Marianne - I come to issue an invitation. A picnic on my estate at Delaford if you would care to join us on Thursday next. Mrs. Jennings daughter and her husband are traveling up especially.
Elinor Dashwood: We should be delighted, Colonel.
Colonel Brandon: I will of course be including Mr. Willoughby in the party.
Marianne: I shall be delighted to join you, Colonel.
