Factual error: When the forensic crime scene investigator is asked how many bodies are in the house he states that they have not checked the attic or crawl space. The house is built on a slab foundation and would not have any crawl spaces. Easy mistake for a writer to make if they never lived in the southwest where such construction methods are employed. Suggested correction: Some houses in the southwestern US are built with crawl spaces, especially in areas on or near rugged terrain (as shown in the beginning of the movie). Also, it's possible the cartel dug in a crawl space to create extra room to hide more bodies.

Character mistake: After Macer shoots the shotgun man during the house raid, she checks his pulse without removing the weapon from his hands first.

Trivia: Originally, Alejandro was meant to have much more dialogue, and his tragic origin would have been revealed earlier in the film. Actor Benicio Del Toro and director Denis Villeneuve ended up agreeing that the character worked better as a silent, mysterious type and that the revelation of his origin should occur late in the film. It is estimated that as much as 90% of his dialogue was deleted during rewrites.

Question: Was the violence depicted in this film accurate to what happens in Juarez today?

Answer: The film was apparently offensive to at least the mayor of Juarez. According to him, the film is based somewhat on stereotypes of the region and the depiction of Juarez as a violent region controlled by drug cartels is outdated.
