Visible crew/equipment: When female Marty gets out of the car for the police officer if you look at the left side of the screen you can see the male Marty actor stood there wearing matching clothing and watching the filming. (00:36:33)
Other mistake: At The Beginning when Mulder and Scully leave the room and walk across the FBI office you can see and hear the camera get knocked to the left by something (it was probably the filing cabinet that they walk past a second later). (00:05:19)
Revealing mistake: At The Beginning of the episode Darlene burns her hand trying to open the door, she then puts on an oven mitt and opens the door. If you look closely though she still uses her other naked hand as well as the covered hand to open the door and her naked hand is completely unhurt.
Revealing mistake: After Scully handcuffs Tooms to the bathtub there is a close up of his face and you can see the edge of his contact lens. (00:39:07)
Other mistake: Deep Throat says that Mulder and Scully are standing in the very room, where "the first human-alien hybrid was created." However, only in the "Patient X" episode, are we told that it is Cassandra who has just become the first successful human-alien hybrid. (00:28:00)
Continuity mistake: When Mulder and Scully talk about the piece of skin while driving to the reservation, one can see that there are green trees from the Mulder's side of the road, but when the shot is taken from the outside of the car, there are only grey bushes and landscape devoid of nearby trees on both sides of the road. Visible crew/equipment: When Ben Drake is walking in front of the paintings in his office, for a short moment one can see the camera setup and the cameraman reflected off the first painting. (00:01:40)
Continuity mistake: During the conversation with Mulder, in the front shot the Deep Throat tilts his head to the left while in the back shot his head is tilted to the right. (00:26:10)
Factual error: According to the NASA space shuttle launch countdown procedure, the close-out crew retreats to fallback area in the "T-3 hours and counting" phase. The members of the crew are the last persons who leave the launch pad at least 20 minutes before liftoff. However, during the close-up take of the main engines, when the ground control says "All systems go for APU start", we can see two members of the ground personnel in orange suits near the engines. Other mistake: The fourth photo could not have been taken by Mulder, because he is shooting craft's pictures from elevation, while this photo is taken from the ground level. (00:08:45)
Continuity mistake: At The End of Max's seizure Mulder holds him under his chin, but in the next shot he holds his hands. (00:26:30)
Continuity mistake: When Michelle is driving her car, the back shots show some label to the left of a driving wheel that is missing in the front shots. (00:15:10)
Continuity mistake: When Michelle's car lays upside down, one can see that it has headlights with two lamps on each side, but in the previous shots her car has only one lamp on each side. (00:15:45)
Continuity mistake: During Colonel Belt's funeral, there are saluting soldiers standing behind Michelle in some shots, while in others they are not there. (00:43:45)
Continuity mistake: When we watch Scully typing from behind, the text she types is ahead of the text we saw at a distance in the previous shot. (00:15:15)
Visible crew/equipment: Mulder talks to the man from NICAP on the other side of the fence. When the shot is looking at the man, film lights are visible reflected in his glasses. Since he is looking at Mulder, there should be lights on Mulder's side, but there are none.
Visible crew/equipment: Mulder is talking to the computer programmer in the prison. The shot starts on the bars and pulls back. A significant shadow caused by the camera is visible on the right side of the frame.
Answer: As he stated many times throughout the series, Mulder needed Scully to be sober and skeptical. Whenever Scully's skepticism wavered and she started questioning her own rationality, Mulder would try to restore her sense of skepticism, because he needed her to be clear-thinking.
