Heat

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Neil is coming out of the elevator at the hotel Waingrow is staying at, you seem him switching his flashlight to his right hand while he reaches up with his left hand to set off the fire alarm. In the next shot, we see a close-up of his RIGHT hand setting off the fire alarm. The shot after this, you seem him lowering his LEFT hand from setting off that alarm, with the flashlight still being held in his right hand.

Continuity mistake: In the scene where Al Pacino is confronting Hank Azaria about his relationship with Ashley Judd, the position of the knot in his tie changes during the scene. (I saw this error noted under "corrections", but if you watch closely, the knot is almost completely under the left collar tab of his shirt between shots.)

Continuity mistake: When the agents are doing surveillance on the hotel room, they have a camera connected to the "peep hole" on the adjacent door. There is a TV monitor that the agents are watching. When the agents open the door to leave the room, the door with the camera on it opens, but the picture on the monitor stays the same.

Visible crew/equipment: In the scene where Hanna and Casals break into Hugh Benny's apartment, when they break down the door it can be seen that a stuntman is filling in for Pacino.

Factual error: As Al Pacino is catching up to Robert De Niro on the freeway he uses his walkie talkie to get an update on De Niro's location. He does not take his finger off of the talk button and therefore would not be able to hear the helicopter pilot's response.

Revealing mistake: When Neil & Co. are in the restaurant after the armoured car robbery, they all get up to leave to deal with Waingrow. The next shot is from the parking lot of them leaving the restaurant. Right as the shots switch, they are all standing still lined up at the door for a second, and then they start to move out the door (once the director yelled "Action" I'm sure).

Continuity mistake: When Vincent is sitting at the table drinking whiskey and talking to Justine, the remote control, the bottle, the glass, the bottle cap, and the chicken leg all keep changing positions. Yes, he does pick up some of these items, but right after he drops the chicken leg to the table, the camera switches to Justine. 2 seconds later, it goes back on Vincent and all those items have moved at once.

Continuity mistake: Robert De Niro finds Val Kilmer in the apartment and they are discussing Kilmer packing it in. Kilmer is all stressed out, and decides to light a cigarette - using a Zippo lighter. The sequence of events is: Val Kilmer grabs a cig, smoke rises from the cigarette, THEN you hear the click of the Zippo lighter.

Continuity mistake: When Neil sets off the fire alarm in Waingro's hotel, there is a little red sign above the fire alarm when shown from far away. When it shows his hand up close pulling the alarm, the red sign is gone.

Continuity mistake: At the end of the movie, after the shootout between De Niro and Al Pacino, De Niro's character is dying. Al Pacino's character holds his hand and you can see, in different shots, the blood on his shirt changes.

Continuity mistake: In the shootout scene when they drive away in the car, De Niro is seen in slow motion as he realises there are cops in front of them as well as behind. He raises his weapon and fires, knocking the rear-view mirror off the window. In the shot directly after he is seen still firing his weapon and the mirror falls off the window again.

Continuity mistake: At the very beginning of the scene when Robert De Niro and Al Pacino are in the coffee shop talking about when De Niro was in prison, De Niro's top shirt button is buttoned in the first shot, then it becomes unbuttoned a second later.

Plot hole: In the scene after the bank job where Charlene waves Chris off alerting him of the setup, Chris drives away and is stopped by the cops to verify who he is. He has a fake ID and they let him go. The police CLEARLY know who Chris is and what he looks likes for most of the movie but somehow, those cops don't have anything with Chris' name and face on it?

Continuity mistake: After De Niro beds the woman from the bookstore, he leaves to get her a glass of water. When he returns, there is a different cover on the bed than when he left.

Continuity mistake: While Chris is searching the armored car, Waingro stands there with his gun out. In the background, you can see the spike strip already pulled across the road . A few seconds later, they show the spike strip being pulled out across the road.

Continuity mistake: In the final airport chase, when Pacino and De Niro are at the end of the runway, an airplane lands. It is first filmed nose-on, then the shot switches immediately to a from-behind shot after the plane has passed overhead. The plane in the nose-on shot is a Boeing 747, evidenced by the "bulb" above the cockpit area. The plane in the from-behind shot is definitely NOT a 747 - no bulb.

Continuity mistake: The ambulance that de Niro steals at the start of the film has a red stripe on the sides, but for the remainder of the film there is also a silver 'L'-shaped graphic as well.

Continuity mistake: After the first wave of police cars does the "demolition derby" across the spike strip, they show some cops running out to stop the next group of cars. When they do that, the spike strip is not in the street. Then the scene shifts to a close up of the cop cars skidding to a stop directly in front of the spike strip, which has now re-appeared.

Heat mistake picture

Continuity mistake: When they torch the ambulance, you can see a dealership emblem that says "LEADER" right above the Chevrolet emblem on the back door of the ambulance. It is visible right after Chris puts the bomb in. In all other shots with the ambulance, this emblem isn't there. Obviously the "LEADER" ambulance is a "fake" that they used just to burn and destroy.

Continuity mistake: In the shoot-out after the bank heist, Vincent's rifle starts out as an AR-15 style with a carry-handle, but by the time he catches up to Mike, it switches types and has no carry-handle.

Trivia: Just after the scene when Waingro escapes being killed, there's a shot of De Niro looking at the sea through the glass with his left arm touching a window frame, and his automatic gun on a little table. This shot is inspired by the picture "Pacific" (1967) made by the Canadian artist Alex Colville.

Question: In the scene right before the big bank heist, a detective comes into the situation room informing the team that a CI Hugh Benny had a tip about Neil McCauley looking at Far East National Bank. How the heck did Waingro (working for Benny and VanZandt) even know about this score? McCauley hadn't even discussed it with Kelso when Waingro took down the armored car.

Answer: Waingro helped Van Zandt track down Trejo. Waingro then tortured Trejo and threatened his family if he didn't give up McCauley. With his back to the wall, Trejo gave Waingro and Hugh Benny the details of the bank heist, but Waingro killed Trejo's family anyway and beat Trejo almost to death. Benny then gives the tip to the police on Van Zandt's order.

BaconIsMyBFF

I wonder how Trejo was tracked, I don't remember his name being revealed during Waingro's time with the crew, or any other information.

Well, we never see the crew prior to their first heist. Trejo could have given Waingro his name during the planning of that heist.

BaconIsMyBFF

Waingro met this crew only once. How would he know who Trejo is or where he lives? Right before the heist, Trejo is asked to mislead police away from the heist.
