A Dog's Purpose

Continuity mistake: When Ethan knocks down the hot dog stand, the tray on it swaps from skewed to straight and back to skewed between shots.

Continuity mistake: When Bailey, or "buddy" first finds Hannah at his last life, Hannah says that he is not a stray because he has a collar. In the initial shot of the dog it does not have a collar on, but when she reaches to see the tag it appears.

Factual error: Towards the end where Dennis Quaid makes his appearance, the location is Michigan. But all of the cars have Michigan plates on the back and front. Michigan doesn't require or even allow license plates on the front, only the back.

Bailey: So, in all my lives as a dog, here's what I've learned. Have fun, obviously. Whenever possible, find someone to save, and save them. Lick the ones you love. Don't get all sad-faced about what happened and scrunchy-faced about what could. Just be here now.

Bailey: I had a purpose, I was needed again and again and again. With each new life I was learning a new lesson.

Adult Ethan: I'm really stubborn.
Adult Hannah: I know that. When you put your mind to something, that was that.
Adult Ethan: Yeah. That's good for getting things done. It's not so good for relationships.

Question: As a non-native English speaker, I ask: At the dinner, Jim says to his boss, "I was thinking, with the numbers so high, maybe it's time I get off the road and take an office position." What occupation did he have? And what does he mean "get off the road" here?

Bunch Son

Chosen answer: I don't know what his specific occupation was, but the term to "get off the road" would refer to someone who constantly travels, either domestically or internationally, for their job, but they now want to work in their company office every day. The most common trope would be the "traveling salesperson" who was constantly "on the road," going town to town, selling their product.
