The Sapphires

Factual error: In the scene where Dave is playing cards with soldiers, some of the paper money being gambled is a design of U.S. money not introduced until about 30 years later.

Factual error: The scene where the wounded soldier in the helicopter makes racist comments and refuses aid is unbelievable. By the time the soldier had got through training, he would have already been exposed to non-white medical personnel, and been kicked out of the service for his attitude long before being on an evacuation flight in Vietnam. Also, the officers in the helicopter crew would have ordered him to knock it off and accept treatment.

Factual error: The Sapphires were interviewed by Marine personnel in Australia, so we can assume they were under the auspices of the USO. It is highly unlikely that the USO would have required or even allowed one of their acts to travel through a war zone unaccompanied as in the scene where they have to get themselves to the next performance.

More mistakes in The Sapphires

Dave: Before we go than, girls when I met you you were doing all country and western thing and that's fine we all make mistakes. But here is what we learn from that mistake. Country and western music is about loss. Soul music is also about loss. But the difference is in country and western music, they've lost, they've given up and they are just all wining about it. In soul music they are struggling to get it back, they haven't given up.
