Dr. Jacob A. Freudstein, is behind all the deaths in the house. He's been doing this in order to regenerate his body parts and organs to keep himself alive by using suitable unwilling donors = anyone who enters his home. He gets away with it because the whole notion of someone dwelling down in a basement for well over a century sounds like absurd bullshit to anyone who hears off it cops included. Thereby allowing Freudstein to keep on killing undisturbed. Only Bob Boyle survives.
