Like the commentary says, there really is no resolution. The movie just stops midstory. Kim Basinger leaves everyone and takes all the family pictures, except for the one the assistant saves for her daughter. Jeff Bridges pretty much hands over the parental duties over to his new gardener and wife. That's it.
