Suggested correction: He doesn't take his shoes off. He takes one shoe off and tips it upside down, like there is a pebble or something in it, and then he puts it back on before he stands up to fight.
He actually takes a lace from a boot he's wearing to tie his severed fingers, and as the fighter scene in the fountain develops, he's wearing lightweight slip-on shoes.

Trivia: Chris Evans refers to Ryan Gosling as a "Ken Doll." Gosling is playing the role of Ken in an upcoming Barbie movie.
