The two would-be rapists get revenge on Adam by beating him up and stabbing him in the stomach behind the restaurant. The doctor tells Caroline that he has a bad heart and he will so need a new heart. Adam refuses to have a heart transplant. The would-be rapists are identified by Caroline. At the end, Adam dies. Caroline opens the present Adam got for her and it is his record collection along with a picture of them together and note behind the photo saying he gave her the records so she could play them and think of him.
