It's giant monsters vs giant robots again in this city-crushing sequel to the Guillermo Del Toro hit, this time following the next generation of pilots as they try to defend earth from the ruthless and destructive invaders as well as deal with threats from within. Action-packed but sometimes predictable, this is a movie for fans of the original film, Godzilla, Transformers and even Voltron, past or present. Can the son of a hero and his younger cadet protege help save the day-as well as the manned Jaeger program? Can their shared tragedies be overcome? Can there be a part 3 in the works? Watch and see.

I rented this from Red Box.

The movie wasn't as good as the first one. And I will agree there are some parts that are just... bad. But over all it's a very enjoyable film. For what it is, it works. Just not a cup of tea for everybody. You have to have a certain appreciation for this sort of movie when going into it.

Mistake Status: Did not search, no current plans to do so.

Continuity mistake: When sitting in the brig, the position in which Namani sits changes. She shifts in her seat, changing the letters visible behind her. (00:55:10 - 00:57:45)

Question: If Kaiju can be killed by dropping something heavy on them from orbit, why spend all that time and effort on Jaegers when a satellite defence system armed with tungsten smart rods would have done the job?

Answer: Each new Kaiju is adapted differently, often based upon what has killed previous Kaiju. This is why the Jaegers have such varied designs. If they relied upon a satellite firings rods from space, there would be no defence when a new generation of Kaiju arrived, adapted to this tactic. Additionally, producing a sufficient number of satellites to cover the entire planet would be a huge task, whereas the Jaeger technology already exists.
