Continuity mistake: Early in the film, Vladimir and Anatoly are in Anatoly's car. The car has two dice hanging from the top of the windshield, but no rearview mirror. When Anatoly pulls up behind the gas truck, the dice are now hanging from a rearview mirror. (00:07:10)
Continuity mistake: About 70 mins into the film, Michael Caine pulls into a petrol station. All in one shot: Michael Caine asks for the car to be filled up, the attendant puts the nozzle in the car and starts filling it (using the "hold-on" feature now disabled on most pumps), takes the £10 proffered, goes back towards the office, Michael Caine spots Robert Powel, gets in the car and starts the engine. The next shot shows Michael Caine driving away from the petrol station with nobody close enough to have disconnnected the fuel hose, but no apparent fuel hose, or spilt fuel, lying on the forecourt, and the attendant not too worried about a damaged fuel pump or spilt fuel. In the next scene as Michael Caine pulls off the road into a farmyard, the filler cap is visible on, with Robert Powel passing by seconds later; Not enough time, especially for a fugitive, to have stopped, got out of the car, hobbled round, put the cap back on, hobble back, got back in and continued his escape. Continuity mistake: When Ninja Christie fights a cop in a graveyard, the cop smashes a headstone with his baton. The damage on the headstone changes between shots. (01:06:25)
Continuity mistake: The note Jenny puts up in the restroom changes; when Starman goes into the bathroom while Jenny is signing the receipt, notice that the postage stamps holding the note to the mirror are now in different positions and the word "help" is smaller. (00:35:55 - 00:36:45)
Continuity mistake: At the beginning, Buckaroo tests his oscillation overthruster. Sitting in his test vehicle he's wearing a wrap-around mirrored visor that reflects a full panorama of the desert area in front of him. There is a thick black divider running down the center of the windshield that is missing from the reflection. Also, since it is a panorama seen on the visor, the edges of the front windshield should be reflected on the sides.
Continuity mistake: When Charlotte hastily makes the bed and shoves Ted out onto the window ledge, the bed covers rearrange themselves between shots: a purple sheet that she'd tucked in before is now peeking out over the bedspread. (00:15:05)
Continuity mistake: The two arrows on the ape's chest change positions between shots: one of them moves closer/away from the nipple.
Continuity mistake: Legionnaires are being mowed down left and right by enemy fire in a Nazi ambush. One of them falls into a road construction excavation. He falls on his back, but the close-up of his feet touching the power cable shows them facing down.
Continuity mistake: Whilst the family are on their way to the parents' house, Inoue takes out a sandwich in his mouth to show to a driver in the car beside him. After he takes the sandwich out of his mouth, the sandwich and the hand he is holding it in, rotate 90° in between shots. (00:17:13)
Continuity mistake: During "Psycho Killer" the cassette player on stage changes position between shots - particularly obvious at the last salvo from the beat machine, when it disappears entirely and David Byrne himself switches side.
Continuity mistake: The social worker takes "the brother" to stay for a while at a female friend's place. Her son, "little Earl" has a bandage on his left knee. He peels the bandage off and sets it on the floor to show "the brother alien" his injury. A medium shot shows there is no bandage on the floor. The "alien" puts his hand on the boy's knee, and heals it. The very next shot the bandage is back on the boy's knee and the scene continues.
Continuity mistake: During the Grand National, the leading horse unseats its rider at the third fence (jockey with pink and black spots), but just a few minutes later the same horse and jockey combination are back up with the pace.
Continuity mistake: Sheena goes barefoot most of the movie but near the end when she's riding a zebra she's wearing a pair of sandals which disappear a few minutes later.
Continuity mistake: When the coach instructs the guys telling them that their 'pistols don't shoot blanks', the clipboard under his armpit flips around at the cut. (00:06:00)
Continuity mistake: Towards the end of the movie, when Josh and Holly are trying to escape in the car, a mutant is on the roof and starts melting its hand through the windshield to get at Josh. The mutant is leaning over the windshield with its hand sticking through a hole it melted in the glass. In the next shot as they round a corner, the mutant is suddenly towards the back of the roof of the car, just holding on without attacking the windshield. In the next shot, the hole is gone also from the glass. (01:25:45)
Continuity mistake: Yuen Biao by mistake splashes the policeman with his bucket. Behind the officer, the van has very little soapy foam left over the store logo. But once the policeman smears his face with the greasy rag, the quantity of soap has increased, effectively blocking out of the writing. (00:06:12)
