Gladiator (2000)

Question: In regard to the scene in which Maximus (Russell Crowe) kills all the challengers and says "Are you not entertained?" can someone explain the people's silence before cheering? Why would they wait to cheer? Was it because they were so stunned at how good he was or insulted by how quick he finished it? It just seems very peculiar.

Lummie

Chosen answer: You're probably closest with the suggestion that they're rather stunned at the sheer speed with which Maximus has carved through the opposition. They'd certainly be used to more of a show, so for Maximus to slay all his challengers in less than a minute would take them aback. If anything, the "Are you not entertained" is closer to the theatrics that they'd really expect to see, which would prompt them into cheering him - up to that point, he's not exactly won their favour, even though he's defeated all comers.

Resident Evil (2002)

Question: Can someone explain what the guys in white suits wanted with Matt at the end of the film when he was infected (Why would they want to contain him instead of treating him with the antidote?). The other question was with Alice (Milla Jovovich) what exactly were they doing with her and how come nothing happened to her in that hospital. Did the zombies just decide to leave her alone?

Lummie

Chosen answer: Matt was infected with a T-virus from a second-generation Licker with human DNA (drawn from Spence). Umbrella has no other research project like him and believes that he may be useful for the Nemesis research strain (using the T-virus to create directed but monstrous mutations in humans for killing machines). Alice was deemed too great a security risk to release, so they experimented with a modified T-virus on her to create a more powerful soldier - she was under observation at the end. The zombies couldn't get into her room because the door was locked and don't have the problem-solving abilities necessary to open the door, so they went searching for more accessible prey. Much of this is explained more clearly in the sequel.

Go (1999)

Question: In the scene where Taye Diggs is telling the guys at dinner about the course he was taking with his girlfriend (I believe it was tantric love making or something like that), can anyone tell me if what he was talking about is really true?

Lummie

Chosen answer: Yes, there are many books and courses devoted to Tantric sex.

X-Men 2 (2003)

Question: Does anyone know if Gambit (had a stick and threw playing cards) will be introduced in the new X-men film and can anyone explain why he hasn't been introduced yet? I always remember he was a major character in the cartoon.

Lummie

Chosen answer: Rumor has it he will be in the third film. Nothing definite yet. There is no reason he hasn't been introduced yet. Why hasn't Archangel, Beast, Bishop or Forge been introduced? Why not the Sentinels? Why is Rogue starting out as a good guy? The movies will not exactly follow the comics or cartoon.
