Corrected entry: In the scene Where Indy is being attacked, in the cemetery, the sidekick is about to be shot with a dart, Indy pops up and blows into the other end killing him. That would have only been possible had the dart been pointing towards the original attacker.

Correction: Just because the dart would have gone in the attacker's throat backwards doesn't mean the poisoned tip couldn't have penetrated the thin tissue inside his mouth or throat.

Corrected entry: In the scene right before Valiant gets off the trolley they show a shot of men lifting a sign with Clover Leaf on it. Then when Valiant throws his mail out and runs over to the station they show the same sign in a different spot even lower than before.

Joe Campbell

Correction: No they don't. The sign is actually *higher* than before. Even if it was lower, it's not like the sign was fixed, it was in the midst of being raised on pulleys -- they could have adjusted the height.

Hairspray (2007)

Corrected entry: Throughout the entire movie (especially during the dance with Tracy's parents and when getting dressed at Mr. Pinky's)you can see the line on where Edna's "Fat" suit is.

Correction: This needs to be more specific in order to qualify as a mistake. Where, specifically, is this line? Which shot? Which part of the character's body?

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: All cartoons have shadows during the film, but when Eddie Valiant is in Maroon's office and looks at Dumbo right outside the window, the camera turns back to Eddie and there's no shadow over him.

Correction: When Maroon throws the peanuts out the window, the film cuts to an exterior shot of Dumbo where we see his shadow is cast on the side of the building. So no shadow would be cast over Valiant's face at the window.

Hairspray (2007)

Corrected entry: Throughout the entire movie Corny says "The First Annual Miss Hairspray Pageant" when evidence is given that this has not been the first one ex: Tracy saying being Miss Hairspray has always been her dream.

Correction: He never says it's the "first annual" competition. He says it's the first time it's airing live in front of a studio audience.

Hairspray (2007)

Corrected entry: In the Scene where you see Tracy climbing up a ladder to get ready to make her appearance, you can see she is wearing her casual clothes and not her checker dress.

Correction: It's unclear precisely what she's wearing, though you can see she is wearing the white boots underneath. It most likely was a long jacket to protect the dress while hiding in the "spray can."

Show generally

Corrected entry: Whenever the ship is shaking, it's obvious it's just the camera wobbling, because people can talk normally and they can be seen to make small movements without being disrupted by the shaking which would not happen naturally.

Correction: Not true. Individuals can adapt quite well to maintain balance during turbulent moments. When's the last time you saw an airline stewardess fall to the ground?

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When Han, Leia and Chewbacca are walking through Cloud City with Lando, when they come around a corner, Lobot (Lando's aide, with "headphones" on his head) walks off to the left. When the stormtroopers enter to cut off their escape, Lobot is back, but he enters from the right.

Correction: He can only be seen from behind when he walks off to the left, so it's only an assumption that it's Lobot and not some other Cloud City operator.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When Obi-Wan arrives at Kamino, when he walks through the door, the hallway goes straight on after entering. Later, when Obi-Wan is leaving, the hallway is curved.

Brad

Correction: When Obi Wan walks in, he looks to his left where a Kaminoan approaches -- the corridor is curved, not straight. The straight corridor is in the *next* scene outside Prime Minister Lama Su's chambers.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When Indy leaves the temple with the gold idol, his 'helper' is found killed by spears. But he is on the same side of the room as the spears. How could they have come out of the wall - penetrating him - and still be on that side of the room. He would have had to have been walking very close to the wall - and the spears would have had to come with an immense force to penetrate him while standing.

Jacob La Cour

Correction: They did come out with an immense force... just as they did with Forrestal.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: In the scene in the army warehouse where everything metal was being attracted to the magnetic crate, the Russians' guns should have been pulled away, or at least toward the crate, as well.

Correction: They were. They were just holding them. But you see them fighting for control when they're standing very near the crate.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: In Back to the Future 1 after Marty goes to 1955, you see a sign that says "Hill Valley 2 Miles". Later in the movie, Marty talks to George and Lorraine then walks out the door. The next scene you see Marty with Doc in his 1985 explaining that he needed to change his clothes, and than there is the whole sequence where Marty goes back to 1985. In 1955, in Back to the Future 2, Marty is standing outside the gym when Biff approaches him. Marty is knocked down by his earlier self, and Biff steals the Almanac. Then Marty steals the Almanac, burns it, sees Doc get struck by lightning, receives the telaeraph, runs 2 miles back to Hill Valley, just to meet Doc after his previous self goes back to 1985. How is it possible for on Marty to do the thing previously stated, while the other one dresses and drives to the Clock Tower, taking up the same amount of time?

Correction: You explained the nit yourself. We don't know how long it took for Marty to change into his 1985 clothes in Part 1... we only know that according to Doc, Marty was late in meeting him. Marty may have gone back to Doc's house to get his clothes, adding some time.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: There is a problem with the following scene: The Nazi plane crashes into the tunnel, slides past Harrison Ford and Sean Connery and explodes when exiting the tunnel. The problem is that the plane shouldn't explode since its wings (filled with gas) were torn off. It couldn't have been a bomb attached to the plane either, since, as it is seen only seconds afterwards, a bomb would leave a big crater in the street and make it impossible for the car to go on. Yet, Harrison Ford has no problems at all driving through what's left of the plane.

Correction: The engine and hosing that delivers the gas to it is attached to the fuselage.

JC Fernandez

Could someone elaborate on the proposed correction please?

Spiny Norman

The engine can still explode and there could hypothetically still be fuel in the hosing connected to the engine.

lionhead

But there's not a LOT of fuel left there, when the tanks fell off half a minute earlier. It's not a terribly entertaining mistake, granted, because some movies really do need explosions. But it might be technically valid in a boring way.

Spiny Norman

Corrected entry: After the motorcycle chase, Indiana drives past the road sign, which points to Venice and Berlin. He then talks to his dad before looking straight ahead at a sign which is behind him.

Correction: He's not looking at the sign, he's making a decision. The shot of the sign was for the audience's benefit.

JC Fernandez

The combination of the two shots is conventional movie language for him looking ahead at the sign (which, I agree, signifies his decision). But he drove PAST the sign.

Spiny Norman

If it's not in the same shot, he is not looking at the sign but towards the road ahead. The mistake is an assumption and has been corrected appropriately.

lionhead

Indiana Jones is not some experimental, challenging movie, like Fellini Satyricon. It follows standard montage conventions for understandable viewing. Person looks ahead, followed up with a "subjective" shot. It's textbook stuff - it's called the Kuleshov effect ("a mental phenomenon by which viewers derive more meaning from the interaction of two sequential shots"). Also, since they drove past the post, they should then be visible in the second shot.

Spiny Norman

Corrected entry: Mutt always has a knife with him that he uses to get out of tricky situations. This reflects Indiana's use of his whip. Another hint of their actual relationship.

Correction: This is critical analysis, not trivia.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: In the scene where the abducted Earthlings are released from the alien mothership, the pilots of the TBF/TBM Avenger torpedo bombers all give their ranks as "captain." However, a Navy captain is equivalent to an Army/Marine Corps/Air Force colonel and the pilots are way, way too young to have attained this rank. Based on the insignia on their uniforms, they were really Navy lieutenants. (02:02:45)

Correction: Actually, only one returnee (Harry Ward Craig) identifies himself as a captain and he is notably older than the others.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When Richard Dreyfuss and his family are having breakfast, there is a milk carton from "Giant Food" on the table. "Giant Food" is a regional Washington D.C. area chain. The milk would have had to been shipped in to appear on the table. (01:01:15)

Correction: And so it was shipped. While Giant Foods is a regional mid-Atlantic grocery chain, it's also a dairy supplier to a wider area.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When the little boy is sleeping and he gets awakened by the strong wind, his toy monkey turns on, and then his toy record player turns on and then his remote control cars turn on. If his house was hit by an electromagnetic disturbance, wouldn't ALL of his electronic toys turn on at once, instead of one toy turning on right after another?

KINGOFNY

Correction: Since the phenomenon is never explained, it can happen any way the filmmakers decide. And it's consistent throughout the movie - Roy in the car: flashlight, car and radio don't turn off/on at once; Jillian and Barry in the house: lights, vacuum, mixer, stove don't all operate at once.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: When Barry is being kidnapped by the aliens, the persons who pulls him outside the house by the dog's entrance in the door is his real mother. You can see her hands - not very alien-like.

Dr Wilson

Correction: Even by freeze framing, you can't see any hands pulling the boy, human or alien.

JC Fernandez

Corrected entry: In the desert at the landing site, I noticed that when the big alien ship comes and everyone screams and runs for cover, you can hear a bunch of women's voices shrieking and screaming. But there are no women there - except the one that came to get her little son, and SHE doesn't scream at all.

Correction: Only one person runs for cover and there is no screaming or shrieking (female or otherwise) when the mothership appears.
