Continuity mistake: When Cory is killed, Joe hears the sirens and puts his weapons up in the air. When the police cars come, Joe walks up to the car that parks directly behind Jimmy's Jaguar. In the shot behind Joe no policeman steps out when the cars drive up, yet, in the following shot a policeman is already standing beside the police car holding his weapon. (00:30:05)
Continuity mistake: When Jimmy finds the tape in the fake spray can, it's a micro cassette. Later, when they try to play it in the car, it magically changes to a standard audio cassette. (00:39:20)
Continuity mistake: On the freeway chase scene, when Jimmy Dix and Joe Hallenbeck are shot at, the window gets shattered by a bullet. In some later shots, the window is completely intact. (01:18:05)
Factual error: When the black car lands upside down in the pool, you can see that it lands as if it were dropped straight down. The car should have hit the pool at an angle, for it was speeding off a hilltop at a very high rate of speed when it entered the pool. (01:18:35)
Continuity mistake: When Wayans and Willis are chasing the limo on the freeway, Wayans draws a picture of a bomb to hold up to the guys in the limo. He draws a large circle with about 6 lines coming out of it with the word "BOM" underneath it. When he holds the picture up at the window, there is only 1 line radiating from the circle. (01:20:40)
Suggested correction: The same drawing is used, the top is slightly cropped but the lines are still visible.
It's not the same picture. In the scene (not screenshot), the top isn't cropped and you see there're fewer lines, and the circle is different. Not only that, but we see in the car "BOM" is written differently than what we see when it's against the window. Also, when he first draws the bomb, the holes in the paper are on the left, but against the window they're on the right. One could argue he flipped the page over to start again, but we already know the final drawing is different.
Continuity mistake: When Joe and Milo are up on the steel structure where the stadium lights are, just before Joe throws the bag of ammo over the edge, a sniper runs to the right in the background, then in a following shot, the sniper runs to the right again. It is the same sniper. (01:31:15)
Continuity mistake: When Jimmy Dix is in the bar, and says " to Alex the astronaut" he is holding the glass with his left hand. In the following shot he drinks it with his right, then it switches back to his left. (00:19:10)
Continuity mistake: After Joe kills Chet by punching his nose up into his brain there is an instant cut and as Chet is collapsing to his knees, he already impossibly has a stream of blood running out of his ears all the way down to under his shirt collar.
Revealing mistake: After Hollenbeck has been tasered and dragged unconscious to the bad guys car, they open the door to put him in and lift him. Hollenbeck uses his right leg to step forward.
Continuity mistake: Big Ray Walston screams that his nose was broken, and has blood coming out of it, despite the fact that Jimmy Dix blatantly hit him in the forehead with a football. (00:12:00 - 01:25:10)
Visible crew/equipment: Close to the end of the film when we see Joe in the woods with all the bad guys, he has his hand in the puppet that his daughter gave to him, now as the camera pans down from a wide shot, look to the right beyond the tree and there is a crewmember standing next to a red ladder, the shot is quick but very visible. (01:13:25)
Continuity mistake: Near the beginning of the film where we see Joe and his best friend Mike standing outside of Joe's house, if you look Joe is standing in front of the tree and his car is parked in line with the tree, yet when Mike walks away and Joe turns around, the car is now parked almost in front of the tree, and Joe is standing behind the tree. (00:16:35)
Continuity mistake: When Joe has been kidnapped, and then killed one of the bad guys, Milo says to Pablo, "Take the corpse out of here and fix Mr Hallenbeck a drink." Pablo is holding his gun in his right hand, but in the next wide shot Pablo is now holding his gun in his left hand. (01:03:10)
Continuity mistake: When Joe and Jimmy are walking down a tunnel going to Marcone's office, several players are running down the tunnel, and then you hear the voice of the big guy (Jimmy broke his nose in the pool scene). Lots of players are running down the tunnel, yet when the big guy grabs him all you see are the players in the distance, when we should see loads more players running past Jimmy, Joe and the big guy. Revealing mistake: This is when Joe finds out his wife is cheating on him and shoots their wedding photo. If the bullet hit the photo, where is the bullet hole? It shows that something other than a gun was used to destroy the frame in this shot. (00:16:40)
Continuity mistake: When Bruce Willis' daughter asks Damon Wayans to autograph his football card, he signs just his name. But when she looks at it the card reads 'To the daughter of the Last Boy Scout, Jimmy Wills', with perfect penmanship. There is no way he could have written all that. (00:58:00)
Factual error: In the final scene Dix is carrying a beer in the hand he just got shot in. After being shot in the palm of the hand there would be too much bone/ muscle trauma to be able to grip anything for quite a while, if ever. (01:34:15)
Continuity mistake: At the very end of the movie as Bruce Willis is talking to another character (I think its his wife I can't remember) the camera keeps switching between close-ups of Bruce Willis and the other character as each of them is speaking. Watch the cuts and bruises on Bruce Willis's face - each time the camera goes back to him the cuts and bruises very obviously change. They change between very severe damage to just slight scratches and light bruising.
Plot hole: When the police chief asks Joe 'where's the briefcase they were telling me about?' Joe tells him to look in the back seat of the white BMW. There are a couple of problems with this. First, the police chief is looking for a case with a bomb in it, because he received a phone call from the guy who had his BMW stolen. Even if he knew about the money, which is unlikely, the police chief has no way of knowing that the case he is about to open is not a bomb, since no-one saw Marcone steal the case with the bomb in it. Yet he opens it without calling the bomb squad. Second, Joe saw Jimmy put the case with the bomb in the back seat, so why doesn't he warn the police chief about it? (01:35:00)
Continuity mistake: At the police station, just after Cory was killed, the Chief of the precinct is looking at Joe and says "The same son of a b**ch saved the president's life." When the shot cuts to the other guy, then back to Joe and Jimmy outside the office, in the background the chief is now sitting back at his desk - some pretty quick moving between shots. (00:31:40)
