True Lies

Continuity mistake: During the fight in the limo between Jamie and Juno, some stray shots go through the roof, creating obvious bullet holes. They change quantity and position a few times in the subsequent shots. Also, in the shot when Arnold lifts Jamie out of the limo and it takes a header into the water, the bullet holes are completely gone.

Revealing mistake: When Aziz (Art Malik) goes flying stuck to the missile, you can see a blue harness under his shirt just before he hits the helicopter. Only noticeable in the close up shot of his face and body.

Matdan97

Revealing mistake: When Aziz (Art Malik) shoots at Harry (Arnold) in the bathroom, he has a rifle with two magazines taped together. If you look closely, the second magazine taped next to the one in the gun is empty. He then reloads the gun by flipping the second, empty, magazine and loading it.

Visible crew/equipment: After Harry finds out Helen is cheating on him with Simon, there is a scene at the house where the camera pulls in on the family eating dinner. In this shot the shadow of the camera can be seen creeping onto the windowsill.

Continuity mistake: After Juno Skinner has killed her limo driver, the limo speeds out of control. There are two champagne glasses in the cup holders next to Juno, but both glasses disappear and reappear between shots while Juno and Helen are fighting each other. With the limo speeding across the bridge, it doesn't make sense that Juno's gun stays on the roof for a while. The gun should have slid off the roof when the limo banged into the guard rails. It doesn't fall off until after the limo has passed through the flaming truck wreck.

Audio problem: When Harry is walking across the street after finding out Helen is having an affair, the bus beeps its horn but the driver's hands remain on the wheel.

Continuity mistake: When Jamie first enters the hotel room, she moves up to the table with the champagne on it. But, moments later, she proceeds to move up to the table again, right before Arnold says hello.

Other mistake: During the bathroom shootout scene, the terrorist shoots the bathroom stall walls from a heavy angle. When the walls and doors are shown from the front while being opened, the bullet holes go directly through both walls of the doors, which would only look like that if they were shot from directly in front.

Revealing mistake: While the credits roll, Harry enters the Swiss mansion, the camera turns to a green-coloured night-vision filter and one can notice that the man entering the house is Harry's stunt double.

Sacha

Revealing mistake: When Arnold horseback rides towards the hotel, Tom Arnold's van skids and you can see that he is a stuntman with a very cheap latex mask to resemble Tom.

Sacha

Continuity mistake: When Harry gets in the Harrier, the aircraft's left forward nozzle is directed aft. In the next shot, the right forward nozzle is aimed down. The nozzles cannot be aimed in different directions. Additionally, the nozzles are aimed aft and down in subsequent shots of the same scene.

Continuity mistake: When Helen is on the couch with Simon, objects on the tables move around. Most notably, the books on the end table change position as well as which one is on top when the spies break in.

Bishop73

Continuity mistake: When Salim Abu Aziz slides through the intersection on the motorcycle, as he's being boxed in and before going into the hotel, the stopped cars change between shots. You see him stop near a white car with round, pop-up headlights, then in the next shot it's a different white car with inset square headlights. Then back to the first white car.

Bishop73

Continuity mistake: In the first scene in the Omega Sector debriefing room, after Francis leaves, the people in the background change too quickly between shots. Most noticeable, the man standing next the seated woman at the computer is gone and a woman from nowhere is in his place.

Bishop73

Continuity mistake: During the scene when Arnold is taking off in the harrier jet, the pilots hide behind a squad car. One pilot is holding his sunglasses. It switches angles and he no longer has sunglasses on. Then his hand moves and they appear as if they had fallen off and he was grabbing them. A few frames later they disappear again. If you look closely, it was obvious they were CGI'd in during editing.

Helen: Have you ever killed anyone?
Harry: Yeah, but they were all bad.

Trivia: In the English version, when Arnold speaks to the chef in the opening sequence, he speaks French. In the French version it would be redundant for him to speak French, so he speaks German and of course it's him speaking. (00:04:50)

Question: Was this film a box office hit, did it flop or simply break even? I have heard nothing about it being a huge money-maker. And of all James Cameron's films, it seems to have gotten the least mention (the controversial strip tease scene might be one reason). So I was wondering if someone could clarify it once and for all?

Gavin Jackson

Chosen answer: True Lies did well, earning about $379m worldwide from a $100m+ budget, the first movie to have a production budget that high. It was the third highest grossing movie of 1994.

Jon Sandys

Answer: There was supposed to be a sequel but after 9/11. Middle East Terrorism seemed in poor taste to James Cameron.
