Continuity mistake: When Dustin Hoffman (dressed as Dorothy) goes to babysit for Jessica Lange he takes a bunch of flowers as a present. Jessica Lange takes them from him and throws them on the kitchen table. Then she walks into the kitchen (shot from different angle) still holding the flowers and throws them on the table (again).
Continuity mistake: When Hoffman accompanies Teri Garr to the audition for the role he later gets, his hair is obviously shorter (ears showing, etc.) than in the rest of the film.
Continuity mistake: In the scene just before Michael admits his infidelity to Sandy, he lays his wig down on the kitchen table. Later, the wig disappears from the table though neither Michael nor Jeff had removed it.
Continuity mistake: During the conversation between Dustin Hoffman and Sidney Pollack in the beginning, Sidney points to the table with his left hand and says "I'm supposed to field offers" but in the next angle, he points with his right hand.
Continuity mistake: For the first few scenes of Tootsie, Dustin Hoffman looks like he had his eyebrows plucked. Maybe they filmed those scenes later.
Continuity mistake: When Terri Garrett comes to the apartment and Michael is in makeup he leaves his wig, earrings, shoes and purse in the dining room. Bill Murray picks up the shoes and purse, but not the wig or earrings. He places those items in the bedroom, however when he returns the wig is gone, and only the earrings remain, which he disposes of in a jar.
Continuity mistake: When Michael says he finds the blonde actress on the balcony interesting and wants to make love to her, and she splashes her drink in his face, the drink gets on the guy behind Michael. When Michael wipes his face off the man's coat, his coat is dry again.
Continuity mistake: After the first day of shooting, Jeff is seating next to a phone holding a pencil, which disappears/ reappears randomly in his hand between shots.
Continuity mistake: During Michael's first discussion with his agent about not finding a job, the agent puts his pen on the notepad in front. The pen disappears/appears randomly depending on the angle.
Continuity mistake: At the dinner table when everyone's at the house in upstate NY, the piano in the background is a console model but later as Tootsie plays the piano, it's become an old upright.
Continuity mistake: In the scene where Michael is about to tell Sandy that he loves someone else the clock behind them is about 12:30. About a minute later when she screams the clock behind them is now after 1:00.
