Monk

Mr. Monk Bumps His Head - S4-E11

Continuity mistake: When Cora goes upstairs, her cat is curled up asleep in a chair. In the next, close-up shot, the cat is awake and sitting at the edge of the chair cushion, looking up at Monk with its front feet hanging over the side. When the shot cuts to wide angle again, kitty is instantly back in his original position, snoozing far from the edge and curled up against the pillows. (00:32:45)

Mr. Monk and the Captain's Marriage - S4-E12

Continuity mistake: While at the crime scene in the junkyard, Monk is trying to explain things, but is unable to concentrate because one of the stacked junked cars still has a headlight in it. Frustrated, the Captain shoots the light out so Monk can continue, but as the screen pulls back the headlight is still unbroken in the car.

Mr. Monk and the Astronaut - S4-E14

Continuity mistake: When Monk is describing the laser pointer incident to Dr. Kroger, the doctor closes his black folder and puts it on the arm of his chair. In the very next shot, it's back in his lap, and he again closes it and places it on the chair arm. (00:25:00)

Mr. Monk and the Astronaut - S4-E14

Continuity mistake: When the captain receives the victim's phone record (outside at the neighbor's house) he calls a number on the bill. But the phone starts to ring (on the other end) before he presses the last digit.

Mr. Monk Goes to the Dentist - S4-E15

Continuity mistake: When Randy is at Monk's place talking about hiring him, Monk says "Like who?" to which Randy replies "Like Me". While Randy says this he is holding a glass with one hand, the other being in his pocket. In the next shot, when Natalie says "Is it about the dentist?", Randy is holding it with two hands. Then, in the next shot, he is holding it with one hand again.

Mr. Monk Gets Jury Duty - S4-E16

Continuity mistake: When the man with the letter from the Attorney General is telling Stottlemeyer not to 'screw it up', he is moving the letter in his hand. However, every time we see Stottlemeyer front on, there is a corner of the letter in the shot, and the letter remains stationary even while the other agent is moving it.

Mr. Monk Goes to Jail - S2-E16

Factual error: Death row prisoners cannot donate organs. No doctor participates in an execution and after the lethal injection the medical examiner must wait at least fifteen minutes to test for cardiac activity before pronouncing the prisoner dead. This is enough time for hypoxia to render the heart, lungs and kidneys useless for transplant. Apart from this, organs intended for transplant must be removed within minutes of the death of the donor. Prisoners are not executed in operating theatres.

Mr. Monk Goes to Mexico - S2-E2

Trivia: According to co-producer Tom Scharpling, the Mexican homicide cops are purposely written as parodies of Stottlemeyer and Disher, right down to their attitudes, their ranks, their suits, and Captain Alameda's mustache. Even the bumbling lieutenant's name is a little joke on Disher. Plato means "dish" in Spanish.

Show generally

Question: If Monk is afraid of germs, then why does he keep touching things that could possibly have germs on them like parking meters or books?

Answer: Notice also that in the opening credits scene when he is touching parking meters her also wipes his hand on his clothes each time he does it.

Answer: That's the thing about Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. It's not something rational. He just has to touch things like that. It's not something he can rationally think through. However, since part of his disorder includes an obsession with cleanliness, he also has an assistant walk around handing him wipes periodically. It's like when he gets a cold and uses both a humidifier (because that's what you use when you're congested) and a dehumidifier (to counteract the effects of the humidifier). He may spout rationalizations after he does something, but his compulsions exist outside of any rational thought whatever.
