Trivia

Marcy, the obsessed fan of Brad's crime show, complains bitterly about his series changing its theme song. This was written as a little joke on Monk's real life fans, many of whom protested the show's 2nd season musical change from Jeff Beal's instrumental to Randy Newman's vocal theme. Newman's vocals opened this episode as usual, but after Marcy repeats her "don't change the theme song" mantra at the end, Beal's theme was brought back to play over the closing credits. It's been used at the end a number of times since. See more...

Mr. Monk and the Blackout (series 3, episode 3)

Mistake Visible crew/equipment: During the police investigation at the power station, the shiny blue construction helmets show us the stage lights, reflectors, camera and film crew several times.

Mistake Deliberate "mistake": As Monk is using the night vision goggles in his house the lights suddenly come back on and continues on still thinking that the intruder cannot see him. The light coming on should have blinded him or at the very least he should have been able to tell there was more light than before even if he hadn't had much experience using the goggles. All the lights in the house come back on and the amount of light would be too noticeable with night vision. This would have been deliberate as Monk continues to think the intruder still doesn't see him in the dark and is part of the joke in the scene.
