Only Fools and Horses

The Long Legs of the Law - S2-E1

Revealing mistake: At the very beginning of the episode, Leonard Pearce is waiting for the cue for his character to start looking for his teeth. He's standing in the living room, between his room and Del and Rodney's room. (00:00:25)

Suggested correction: Not necessarily a mistake. If someone is looking for something they often try to think where it could be before they start searching.

Clearly not seen the episode. Leonard is stood not moving a muscle and then starts actively looking.

To Hull and Back - S4-E8

Continuity mistake: Rodney says that he picked up the money off the table when they were trying to escape from the police, yet if you look closely he never goes near it. And he never has another chance to pick it up.

Strangers on the Shore - S9-E2

Other mistake: Boycie asks to sleep in the Trotter's flat after being chucked out of his house and not allowed back in due to a gas leak. He states "I was going to check into a hotel, but I've left everything in the house; wallet, credit card, car keys, the lot... so all I've got is what I'm wearing." He isn't shown to be carrying any luggage. Later in the episode, Raquel complains that Boycie keeps putting on the hair gel that Del added onion puree to at the start of the episode. How was Boycie able to get his hair gel that was in his gas-filled house? One could propose that he asked the firefighters to receive it, but why wouldn't he also ask them to retrieve his wallet/credit card so that he can book into a hotel rather than sleeping on the sofa in the Trotter's overcrowded flat? The Jolly Boys' Outing - S6-E7

Continuity mistake: In 'The Unlucky Winner Is' (which is set before Rodney and Cassandra marry) Del changes Rodney's date of birth to 2nd November 1974 in order to make him appear 14, meaning this episode is set sometime between November 1988 and November 1989. However, in this episode, which takes place after Rodney and Cassandra have been married a whole year, a sign in the window of the coach (which can be seen just as the coach is leaving the police station) states that this episode takes place in 1989, and it is on a Bank Holiday weekend, thus can be no later than August 1989.

Strained Relations - S4-E2

Visible crew/equipment: When everyone's back at the flat, as Del Boy is looking straight down the hallway to his and Rodney's bedroom, someone comes up to him and he turns around. When it goes from his close-up to the wide shot of everyone else the shadow of the camera reversing backwards is visible for a few seconds.

The Russians Are Coming - S1-E6

Continuity mistake: Just before Grandad suggests building the shelter in the New Forest, as Del goes to look the plans for the shelter you can see Grandad sit forwards in his chair. In the next shot Grandad is now sitting back. (00:06:55)

Sleepless in Peckham - S9-E3

Continuity mistake: In 'The Frog's Legacy' (1987), Del & Rodney learnt the story of Freddy The Frog for the first time - neither of them had ever heard of him before (Aunt Irene explains to Del who Freddy was. She mentions both 'Freddy The Frog' and his real name 'Frederick Robdal'. Del has heard of neither of these names). Yet in 'Sleepless in Peckham', it would seem that Del had known Freddy since he was 15. He even went on their first Jolly Boys' Outing with the rest of the gang.

Chimera

Time on Our Hands - S8-E3

Visible crew/equipment: When Del and Rodney are sitting in the van after the auction you can't see into the back of the van for huge boxes. When they start shouting and screaming the camera angle changes to show the van rocking from a distance, and you can see someone in the back of the van through the back windows banging against the side of it.

Fatal Extraction - S7-E11

Audio problem: In one of the scenes where you see Del trying to sell some ski wear at the market, his lips are obviously saying something totally different to what he actually says. They have dubbed over the original soundtrack.

Healthy Competition - S3-E2

Revealing mistake: When Del is trying to sell those hooky toy dogs, there are some shots of the policeman walking across the street. The same clip of that policeman is played twice, only one is longer than the other (note a grey-haired man walk across the screen twice). (00:01:35)

Modern Men - S8-E2

Uncle Albert: Is that the radio I hear, Rodney?
Rodney: No, Elton John popped in and he's rehearsing in the kitchen!

Trivia: The story behind why Trigger calls Rodney Dave is that apparently Roger Lloyd Pack kept getting names mixed up during rehearsals early on in the show's history. "Dave" came from David Jason when he was actually with Nicholas Lyndhurst [Rodney]. It stuck and quickly became part of the show's immense appeal.

Chosen answer: An apparent long string of illnesses.

Answer: Joan Mavis Trotter (Nee Hollins) was an unseen character in Only Fools And Horses, having died in 1964, 17 years before the series began. She died of an alcohol related illness due to both her sham marriage to Reg Trotter and being hit hard by the death of her secret lover Freddie "The Frog" Robdal.
