The Simpsons (1989)

Bart Carny - S9-E12

Corrected entry: The Simpsons arrive back at their house and discover that the 2 carnival workers they let live with them have boarded up every window and way into the house. However, when they are in the tree-house, you can see the windows on the upper-floor have remained un-boarded.

Correction: We never actually see the back of the house when the Simpsons arrive so we can't safely assume that it's all boarded up. More importantly perhaps, we don't see the back of the house until several hours later, so it's quite possible they simply took the boards off.

Pulp Fiction (1994)

Corrected entry: In the shop when Butch unsheathes the sword it makes a metallic sound. Yet the Japanese sheaths are made of wood, so on unsheathing there is no metal-metal friction and no metallic sound.

Correction: Try pulling a kitchen knife out of its wooden block. It makes the same noise as this does.

The Simpsons (1989)

Correction: I just watched this episode and looked out for this mistake, and it is certainly spelled correctly.

The Simpsons (1989)

Correction: We are located nearer to the sniper than Lisa, so the sound would hit us immediately, but the bullet wouldn't hit until later. The relevant speeds aren't light and sound, but sound and the bullet.

Friends (1994)

Season 5 generally

Corrected entry: When Rachel is flying to London we find out that a last minute ticket is $2700. Now even if a regular ticket was only half of that, how does Emily afford flying back and forth constantly?

Correction: First of all, she doesn't go back and forth that much, and no doubt will book a bit in advance, making it much cheaper. Most of the time she is ringing Ross, not speaking to him in person. Secondly, a family member of mine booked a flight to New York with British Airways for £199 ($300ish) return. It's hardly going to break the bank, and as we have evidence that Emily's family is fairly well off it's quite possible for her to be flying like this.

The Simpsons (1989)

Show generally

Corrected entry: At certain points in the series, the multi-armed elephant god that Apu worships is called, "Vishnu," and at other times, it's referred to as, "Ganesh."

Correction: No, it's always called Ganesh because that's it's name. He sometimes prays to Vishnu, but the name of the elephant god never changed when he is talking to it.

Darkness Falls (2003)

Corrected entry: If the kerosene dripping out of the lamp and spreading all over the floor got caught on fire, how come the fire was barely larger then a campfire and only lasted a few minutes? Kerosene burns and spreads quickly. The whole lighthouse should have burned down before Kyle, Michel and Kat got out.

Correction: Kerosene is actually quite difficult to set on fire, unlike petrol for example. What is dangerous is kerosene vapour but that only poses a threat when there isn't enough air for it to diffuse into, and in this case there was so it's unlikely a huge fire could have started.

Corrected entry: The painting "Scream" hangs in The National Museum in Oslo, Norway. Not a few meters from "Mona Lisa" in The Louvre.

Correction: The Scream has moved around over the years. It was in London in 1996, in Paris in 1999, so unlike the Mona Lisa it doesn't stay in one place, it is often loaned. For example, The Sunflowers is currently in the National Gallery in London, but 6 years ago it was in Paris as well. Finally, the artist Munch actually did 4 copies of the painting, so it could be any one of 4 at The Louvre.

The Haunting (1999)

Corrected entry: From inside the house, the windows are gothic, from the outside they look square.

Correction: There are so many different shots of windows, both inside and outside, and it's impossible to tell which correspond to which.

Ali G in Da House (2002)

Corrected entry: When the PM and his mate go upstairs to talk, Ali and Julie have sex. Everyone downstairs thinks it was the PM and his mate having sex because of the noise above. But how come the PM and his mate didn't hear it? Ali and Julie were very loud, and I don't suspect the PM and his mate had ear plugs in or went miles out of hearing range.

Correction: The only reason they could hear it downstairs is because they were directly below it. As the PM wasn't, it's possible he didn't.

Spider-Man 2 (2004)

Corrected entry: When in the beginning of the movie Peter Parker is delivering eight pizzas to an office, he stumbles out of a janitor's closet. You can see the stack of pizzas standing inside the closet. In the next shot, Peter pushes back the brooms and closes the door, but without removing the pizzas. Still, in the following shot, he picks up the pizzas which have now miraculously moved outside the closet.

Correction: It's quite difficult to see, but he actually chucks the stack of pizzas out of the door before he tries to shut it.

Jurassic Park (1993)

Corrected entry: When the kids are eating in the hall, I keep wondering about Tim. If he'd just received a serious electric shock, would he even be able to eat? Most people that get even a minor shock can't eat for a couple of days. (01:43:05)

Correction: A friend of mine was electrocuted and knocked unconscious by his television. When he woke up in the hospital, the first thing he did was ask for a bacon sandwich. Add to this the fact that Tim and Lex hadn't eaten for at least a day, and had been running around for most of it.

Hannibal (2001)

Corrected entry: When Hannibal has Pazzi duct-taped to the carrier, Pazzi can clearly still move his head around, so why in the world does Hannibal instruct him to answer 'yes' or 'no' by blinking, instead of simply nodding his head? (01:16:01)

Correction: So that Pazzi becomes confused. He later asks him "was that a yes or a no?" He has imposed the blinking rule because Pazzi is panicking and he almost wants him to make a mistake. It's part of his mind games and torture.

Jurassic Park III (2001)

Corrected entry: In the scene where the Spinosaurus is chasing Grant and the boy along the giant fence, Grant and the boy think they have escaped by cutting through a small hole in the fence. This fence is actually a double fence, the first part appears to be made from two in steel cables and forms a mesh fence. The second part of the fence appears to be made from 10-12 inch steel tubing. After Grant and the boy escape through the hole the Spinosaurus back up, charges the fence and crashes through with ease. Grant and the rest of the survivors then dash into a nearby building and slam the door. They then lock the door with 3 sliding dead bolts about 2 inches thick. When the Spinosaurus pushes against the door, it's unable to break through the 2 inch deadbolts.

Correction: When it breaks through the fence, it can get the whole weight of its body behind it. If you look you can see it almost hits it with its shoulder in order to break it down. When it comes to the door, because of its low height it can only use its legs or possibly its head. Therefore it cannot put nearly as much force behind its hit on the door. We also have to consider the possibility that it broke bones or something when it smashed through the fence, so might not be up to the task.

What Lies Beneath (2000)

Corrected entry: In the scene where Norman puts Claire in the tub to try and drown her, he fills up the bathtub to where it is almost overflowing. Well, on the front of the bathtub, there is a device that drains the bathtub at a certain point so the tub couldn't have possibly filled up to the point to where it would be drowning her in the position she was in. The device they used was obviously just a prop.

Correction: It is quite common that the waterflow from the taps is greater in volume than the overflow can deal with. Therefore all it can do is slow down the raising of the water, not stop it or reverse it.

Corrected entry: The post of 'Sheriff of Nottingham' was not created until the fifteenth century. The county had a Sheriff for centuries beforehand but from watching this film you'd think that the city alone was under his sole authority which it definitely was not. Yes it's standard movie lore, but that doesn't make it less of a mistake.

Correction: Although his power has always been exaggerated in the films to a certain extent, the position did exist.

Enigma (2001)

Corrected entry: Dougray Scott manages to drive several hundred miles to Scotland, unofficialy, and during a time of severe petrol rationing to intercept the U-boat.

Correction: The supply of rationed goods to individuals close to the military and especially those in intelligence was designed to keep them happy to prevent defection. Therefore, it's quite possible he was given petrol because he asked for it.

Forrest Gump (1994)

Corrected entry: Jenny inexplicably joins the Black Panthers for a short time. Forrest meets up with her at a Black panther outpost. In reality, the Black Panthers were totally a Black Separatist organization (as directly implied by the Black Panther leader explaining the club's purpose to Forrest), and never recruited whites to join them - ever.

Correction: It's never suggested she has actually joined, just that she knows some people in it.

David Mercier

They actually were willing to work with white people who shared their beliefs.

Corrected entry: When Peter has been changed back into a human he holds up his hands and there are definitely ten fingers. In the next shot there is a finger missing on his left hand but during the rest of the scene it alters all the time.

Correction: No, he is always missing part of a finger on his left hand. Because of some of the angles it can look deceptive, indeed I had to look closely at it, but the finger in question always has a part missing.

The Last Samurai (2003)

Corrected entry: Algren and later Taka are shown bathing in a smoothly-finished cement bath, something you would not see in a remote village in 1877 Japan.

Lynne Trestrail

Correction: I can't see any evidence of cement, it may be smooth lined, but it's carved into the rock.
