Futurama (1999)

Space Pilot 3000 - S1-E1

Corrected entry: This is the only episode in which Bender doesn't mention he drinks to power up his fuel cells, in fact he say "I can quit anytime I want" when Fry challenges him about it. Clearly the writers hadn't decided that this is why he drinks, as in later episodes he explains all the time. (00:10:00)

David Mercier

Correction: In the episode where Bender converts to religion, he reveals he can drink clean efficient oil instead of alcohol, presumably meaning he can power up his cells without drinking beer.

Blackadder (1986)

Plan E: General Hospital - S4-E5

Corrected entry: Blackadder makes the joke, "I imagine he went to one of the great Universities, Oxford, Cambridge, Hull." This is probably around 1916, but Hull University didn't exist until 1927. We cannot put it down to the joke either, as he explains later the nurse failed to point out its quality, not its existence.

David Mercier

Correction: The original question by Blackadder was not a joke, it was a deliberate mistake to trick Nurse Mary. As for the explanation later when he reveals her to be the spy, his exact words are that only two of them are great universities. The mistake is only valid if he had emphasised the word universities which he does not. His words can easily be interpreted as saying that only two of them are universities which was, at the time, true.

Blackadder (1986)

Dish and Dishonesty - S3-E1

Corrected entry: William Pitt the Elder is heard introducing his "Younger" brother as the new Prime Minister. However, Pitt the Elder was Prime Minister from 1766 to 1767, and Pitt the Younger was from 1783 to 1801, so it's inaccurate for them to follow on from each other like this. It's also worth pointing out that if Pitt the Elder is supposed to be the PM at the start of the episode (something Blackadder attests to), then the Prince Regent would have been around 4 years old at the time.

David Mercier

Correction: At the very start, Blackadder does indeed say about "Pit the Elder" but, the next scene (In parliament) the speaker of the house says "I call upon the new Prime Minister of Great Britain and her empires, Mr William Pitt, the Younger". Pitt the Elder never introduces his brother.

Blackadder (1986)

Plan E: General Hospital - S4-E5

Corrected entry: Black Adder says that there are four verses to "God Save the King." There are actually five, and technically there are six. However, the final verse is very anti-Scottish (added after the Jacobite rebellion of 1745-46), and is very rarely seen and even more rarely performed.

David Mercier

Correction: While this may be true, Blackadder is merely trying to confuse Darling into confessing he's a German spy.

umathegreatstationarybear

Corrected entry: In the coffin, The Bride looks down to her feet and you can see a small camera disguised as a knot in the wood. It's used to take subsequent shots. (00:57:55)

David Mercier

Correction: It IS a knot hole. No camera that would be even remotely useful to a film crew would have a lens that small. Besides, I'm sure the coffin was constructed so that the sides, top, etc. could be removed for filming, so why would they resort to this?

Philadelphia (1993)

Corrected entry: At several points during the plaintiff's case, Miller seems to be questioning his own witnesses after the defense counsel, which of course doesn't happen.

David Mercier

Correction: Yes it does. After defense counsel questions plaintiff's witness, plaintiff can ask questions on re-direct.

Scary Movie (2000)

Corrected entry: When they throw the body off the dock into the water, why does it sink? He was still alive, and live bodies float.

David Mercier

Correction: He wasnt alive - When one of them threw a beer bottle away at hit him on the head and he was killed then.

Futurama (1999)

Correction: Watch the scene. They are floating about aimlessly all the time. Of course they change places.

The Jackal (1997)

Corrected entry: When Bruce Willis is dressed up as the policeman at the end of the film, he has a significant amount of make-up to make him look paler, older and bigger. In the underground station, all this has vanished and the only thing he is seen doing is taking his wig off.

David Mercier

Correction: No make-up was applied but the wig just gives that effect.

Crocodile Dundee (1986)

Corrected entry: How does Sue get through the barrier on the underground when she's looking for Mick - we are never shown her putting a ticket through and she certainly doesn't seem to have time to do it.

David Mercier

Correction: The scene only shows her going through the turnstile, which doesn't happen until after you put the ticket (or, at that time, probably a token) through the machine. Could have taken ten minutes for all we know.

The Mummy (1999)

Corrected entry: In this film, Evie in particular is seen reading Hieroglyphics from left to right, like normal English, but it was actually written from right to left, similar to Hebrew I believe.

David Mercier

Correction: Hieroglyphs were written left to right, right to left, and sometimes even vertically.

The Jackal (1997)

Corrected entry: When Bruce Willis shoots the Russian Major he says "The blood's black, that means the bullet is in your liver." He then draws on her with significantly darker than usual blood. Why then, is all the blood on her clothing and chest normal coloured?

David Mercier

Correction: The blood is as dark on the shirt as is on his fingers and that is darker then what's on her face.

AntiTrust (2001)

Corrected entry: Have you noticed how all these so called computer experts, particularly Milo, seem to type so slowly? You would think having been around computers and doing codes for most of their lives that they would type at least slightly quicker than average, but they really don't. In fact at one point Milo is seen typing with one finger on each hand, anyone who studies computers to his level knows how to do it properly.

David Mercier

Correction: As a programmer of 11 years myself and an avid two finger typist I disagree with your comment/logic. I have may very skilled friends who also can not take the time to type with more than two fingers. It's no secret that a lot of us programmers are lazy and would not take the time to learn to type properly.

Red Dragon (2002)

Corrected entry: Why does Dolarhyde's house explode suddenly when it's on fire? It's not as if he keeps vats upon vats of chemicals or gases in there. It's just a cinematic effect to look cool. It should just keep burning steadily without exploding.

David Mercier

Correction: While the other correction isn't valid (something from the book can't explain away a movie mistake), it's entire possible that a gas line in the house went off in the blaze. That has happened in real life, and it can be pretty dramatic.

TedStixon

Correction: In the book, his safe is full of explosives. I can't recall if there was some visual reference to this in the movie.

Corrected entry: Throughout the film the character "Herakles" is referred to in his Roman form as "Hercules". As the majority of the people in the story are Greek and the story is from Ancient Greece, it is woefully inaccurate to be using the Roman pronunciation and spelling.

David Mercier

Correction: In fact it is 'woefully inaccurate' to have the characters speaking English, but shooting the film in ancient Greek would have meant nobody understood a word they said. 'Hercules' is a well known name to English speaking audiences, and that's what the filmakers used.

Corrected entry: When The Bride kicks her mug at Vernita, it is obvious that the kick she does is a drop kick and that the cup would go almost straight up, but in the next shot it is seen traveling in a straight line towards Vernita.

David Mercier

Correction: Actually, the move is possible. It's all a matter of timing and hitting the object (In this case, a mug) at the correct angle.

26th Apr 2004

The Jackal (1997)

Corrected entry: The Spanish woman loses and regains her accent all the way through the film, often halfway through sentences. I wouldn't normally complain as an accent is difficult to keep, but hers is shockingly bad.

David Mercier

Correction: That is because she's lived in America so long her accent is changing.

Shrek 2 (2004)

Corrected entry: Right at the end, when the clock starts to strike midnight, during the tolls they decide not to kiss. This is all very well except midnight always comes on the first toll, not on the last, so even if they had decided to kiss they would have been too late. However, it certainly allows more dramatic tension which is why it is done this way, although it's still wrong. (01:15:25)

David Mercier

Correction: Based on the story of Cinderella, the magic ends at the last stroke of midnight. It's a common fairy tale "fact" for the magic to end at that point.

18th Apr 2004

Futurama (1999)

Correction: Just prior to riding the ball, Fry is covered by about 9-12 balls. In that time, he could have cut the parachute lines.

24th Apr 2004

Futurama (1999)

Correction: Don't forget Fry is stupid and will play something else.
